firefox updates?

Options
i got a pop up yesterday saying that updates were available, so i clicked on ok to download, however i did not restart my comp at that time, i waited until i was going to finish.
today, i was unable to access any sites at all, so i had to do system restore.
i have windows xp and i think the updates were firefox 1.7
any ideas as to why this might have happened.?
Nice to save.

  • Has your computer worked properly since? Did you update to firefox 1.0.7 or was it an update to an extension? The only time I've had similar problems of being unable to access sites was I believe due to some of the extensions I was running. I removed all the extensions then gradually put back the most necessary ones (leaving off things like foxforecast) and it has been fine since. I hope this is of some use.

There is no such thing as Firefox 1.7.
The latest release is 1.5 which can be found on the Mozilla website.
Thinking about it you may have seen 1.07.
When you get back online go into Firefox help, and check the release in 'about'.
Mozilla were recommending people to upgrade to 1.5 some time ago, but be aware some extentions/themes may not work.

There are also a number of builds in languages other than American English to be found on this page. For example; there's English (British), Irish (Gaeilge), and a Welsh (Cymraeg) conversion is apparently on the way.

Gee wizz, downloaded the good ol' British version of 1.5.

Only difference seems to be the uk versions of the search engines.

If you have not updated Firefox for 6 month then you will have missed a number of security updates.

I'd suggest you upgrade to 1.5 asap.

Sorry if I was not clear, Automatic downloads deliver security updates for Windows.
You have to update Firefox separately as it is not a Microsoft product. The good news is that once you have upgraded to 1.5 it will update itself.
If you like you can get Firefox as part of the Google Pack which may be of interest - I like the photo screen saver.

    Its here http://pack.google.com/pack_installer_new.html
