i got a pop up yesterday saying that updates were available, so i clicked on ok to download, however i did not restart my comp at that time, i waited until i was going to finish.
today, i was unable to access any sites at all, so i had to do system restore.
i have windows xp and i think the updates were firefox 1.7
any ideas as to why this might have happened.?

Has your computer worked properly since? Did you update to firefox 1.0.7 or was it an update to an extension? The only time I've had similar problems of being unable to access sites was I believe due to some of the extensions I was running. I removed all the extensions then gradually put back the most necessary ones (leaving off things like foxforecast) and it has been fine since. I hope this is of some use.0

There is no such thing as Firefox 1.7.
The latest release is 1.5 which can be found on the Mozilla website.
Thinking about it you may have seen 1.07.
When you get back online go into Firefox help, and check the release in 'about'.
Mozilla were recommending people to upgrade to 1.5 some time ago, but be aware some extentions/themes may not work. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -

Gee wizz, downloaded the good ol' British version of 1.5.
Only difference seems to be the uk versions of the search engines. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
my computer was ok after i did system restore.
i have never upgraded firefox or updated extensions etc.

i think i probably did see 1.07Nice to save.0 -
If you have not updated Firefox for 6 month then you will have missed a number of security updates.
I'd suggest you upgrade to 1.5 asap. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
it was the security updates that i downloaed , however following this i could not access any sites at all, so i did system restore, which enabled me to access sites again.
i have autoamatic downloads for xp, which i think downloads security updates.Nice to save.0 -
Sorry if I was not clear, Automatic downloads deliver security updates for Windows.
You have to update Firefox separately as it is not a Microsoft product. The good news is that once you have upgraded to 1.5 it will update itself.
If you like you can get Firefox as part of the Google Pack which may be of interest - I like the photo screen saver.
