I'm after a program a little like Microsoft Phone I suppose which is for your computer and uses the modem and telephone line in conjunction with the mic and speakers to turn the PC into a phone/answering machine too
Anyone heard of this software or know of where to get it (preferably a free version
)!
Cheers,

I used to use a BT one years ago when I was on dial-up. Have a search of BT.com.

I don't think the original poster means a VOIP service.
They are looking for a program that can act like a phone on a normal land line.
Years ago I used to use PhoneTools, i'd also like to know of any other programs that can do this.

Thanks for that. I did mean the normal landline phone management software - I have VoIP installed but sometimes it is just easier to make calls on my laptop when mobiles are involved and VoIP isn't as competitive.
If a call comes in on the landline, I have to get out of my computer chair, then almost break my neck while hurrying to the kitchen to answer the phone because I've forgotten I'm wearing the headset and get yanked back.0 -

TOG, I am wondering if that is just a notification when you are online using dial-up, rather than a facility to actually answer. If it is .......
I had a similar program supplied with the modem, combined with BT's CallWaiting - it would ring in the computer, you'd hang up the dial-up connection (or put on hold if v92 modems at both ends), and go to answer the phone.
I could be wrong, but I'd expect it to also say about answering via the PC, or other requirements, like a headset0 -
From the linkYou can then accept the call or divert it to your answering service (if you have one). You may also ignore the call, which will automatically send the call to your answering service.
So I assume you can.
