Hello everyone.
Just some background information.
I am currently in uni, second year, but from February 2009 I will start my placement.
I had a job interview on 20th November. To this day still no reply. (It is now third week and counting that I have not heard anything since the interview)
I had another job interview elsewhere (in a different organistion) on 1st December. To this day still no reply!
Question:
Are there any time restrictions for when a company must reply to the candiate after the interview with an answer yes/no ?
Are there any laws for this?
Thank You!

There is no time restriction or law that states when, or indeed if, a company has to get back to you about an interview. Chances are that if three weeks have gone by and you've heard nothing from them then you didn't get the job. Some companies send out "thanks but no thanks" letters and others don't. I have worked at places as a secretary where the "thanks but no thanks" pile got left until someone had nothing else to do. It's not rude or indifferent - just other things take priority.
Best of luck with your job search.

I must admit that I hate it when I get no further response from a company after and interview - it's very frustrating and annoying.
However, I don't think there are any 'legal' obligations for a company to tell you "No thanks" ( but could be wrong)
Did you write to them after the interview to thanking them for giving you the opportunity to express yourself at interview and their time taking in seeing you ? - Doesn't always work - but increases the chances of a reply in my experience.

Some people take ages to get back to you or even make decisions. when i applied for my last role (internal, although there were external candidates) so many people applied for the role that they took 3 weeks to just shortlist and invite for interviews. Because i got the job, i heard 2 days after the interview, but the rest of the people who applied heard a week later, which seems reasonable. you wont think that they'd take more than a week to decide, but as someone has said, there could be a backlog in sending letters out to candidates
But after an interview, after 3 weeks you can probably assume you didnt get it. I know its tough and rude/ not very helpful, but sometimes you dont ever hear anything. If you have the contact details, could you ring up and ask?
(Feedback i've found very helpful if you can get it. Note the negative feedback and improve in next interview)
For next time, its always helpful to ask at the end of the interview when you can expect to hear back form them if they dont mention this to you first.
Sometimes they will tell you how many people they still have to interveiw and when they expect to make a decision, it gives you a rough idea and is better than not knowing anything at all.** i didn't lose my mind, i sold it on ebay **0 -

Yes, on both occasions I emailed the interviewer and thanked them for the interview.
Thanks for your reply!
Minky2Slice, thanks for your reply! The other interview which I had on 1st December, I was told to except a reply by Friday, today is Sunday, and still nothing yet, but will wait a couple more ays before contacting them. It is annoying I agree with you, especially that I didn't push them to the Friday, the GM set the day herself!
Thanks again to everyone for their replies, hae been really useful0 -

However, they very rarely know at the time of the interview how long it will take to make a final decision. When I attend interviews I am almost always told when I am likely to hear from them, and ninety per cent of cases the rejection letter has come quite a bit later.
I think that this is because they need to be sure that a contract has been established between themselves and the successful candidate before contacting the others, particularly those who might be successful if their first choice decided not to accept. They need to check references, identity documents and qualifications for the successful candidate, then issue a formal offer of employment, then receive a formal (legally binding) acceptance. Only then can they start dishing out the rejections.0 -

Welcome to the real world ! There are no restrictions for a company to reply to a candidate after an interview and they don't have to do so either-even if they should and it is discourtious not to.0 -
