Any ideas what's the best quality and cheapest price for TFT monitor. Advice please!

In terms of quality these are two of the best around at the moment ViewSonic VP730 (17") and ViewSonic VX924 (19") although prices start around £240

Dont have one yet but think it would be worth paying a bit more for the 19" screen, having seen 17" and 19" on display.

The Acer AL1951BS (£249) comes out as Best Buy in Computer Upgrade magazine January 2006 edition, while in PC Advisor February 2006 edition Best Buy is the Samsung SM930BF (£261) and the Acer AL1951A (£269) is Recommended.

Anyone have any experience with these?

The LG Models are very good. Ive seen a few in the flesh and the quality is very good. https://www.ebuyer.co.uk have several models in various sizes and you can check out the user reviews for each one. You really should try and see a few before ordering. PC World :eek: (I know they are useless) usualy have several on display so you can check them out. Write down the model no. and check online after. I have seen some apalling TFT's and would allways go for a better quality smaller one rather than a large cheap one.

NCC1701 - thanks for the info.

I recently bought a DELL PC (no probs with it) but wondered whether to get a lower spec one for my son to use for PC games/internet (like bob the builder not Doom :-) or just use the old PC and get a new monitor - it currently has a CRT.

His games seem to work well on the old PC so I might just buy the LG or Samsung Samtron 73V 17" TFT and save a few quid. I ones I saw were £250+ which is why I thought I should just buy a new PC.

Something to bear in mind is that the "native resolution" of both the 17" and 19" TFT screens is usually 1280 x 1024. But the 19" ones look so much nicer!

The older Dell screens are very good, and used to be the best. The 1905FP for example.

If you want the best, the new P-MVA screens are the latest technology. They offer very low response times whilst also have a very big viewing angle (unlike many TN panels).

The Belinea 10 19 20 is hugely favoured, and the ViewSonic VP930 is too. They both use the same panel, the Belinea is about £100 cheaper though (at £250ish from Pixmania).

If you're a gamer then a TN screen (very low refresh rate but poorer viewing angle) may be another consideration. The Benq FP91V (£220ish) gets some very good reviews, but build quality leaves something to be desired.

My OH just bought the cheapest 19" one that ebuyer was selling - it's arrived and is working (and is soooo big!) - so seems amazing value to me - with tax it was about £170 (I think). He's far better at techie stuff than me (built my computer and things!) and if he's happy with it then it has to be ok!
