EDF Energy direct debit option payment warning
Back in about July, I decided to pay EDF by direct debit. I have actually three electricity bills for one house. Two of them I've moved to a cheaper supplier, but the third one, for a garage to the house is always very very low so much so that with their estimated billing and meter readings in my last bill they owed me £27.60! The actual electricity used is £5-£10 per quarter and I'v been with them or their direct predecessors (without change) for about 30 years. So they have a substantial record of my useage. Apparently they sent me a letter in which they said that they were going to DD me £30 per month. If I had received it I would (obviously) have said something. I've just received a statement showing that I've used an estimated 10 units, I haven't checked but it's probably about right however they've continued to take £30 per month so the bill I've just received now shows that they owe me £147.90!
After I telephoned them, they are of course going to refund me this amount, and reduce the standing order to £1 per month. However, they couldn't explain how they had arrived at the £30 per month DD and they refuse to compensate me for the loan of this money even after speaking to a supervisor. Apparently it would have been picked up in a revue. Well, I would hope so.
So other small consumers should be warned I think.
It doesn't seem fair to me.
What further action can I take?
