Stainless Drinking Bottles - BPA Free

I have been searching for a while for a water/drinking bottle that was not made from plastic, I also do not like the Sigg Aluminium bottles.

I found some called Klean Kanteen that are very popular in the USA but very expensive and not very green getting them shipped over.

So lots of goggling later I did find a couple of sites in the UK that sold the Klean Kanteens but again they were quite expensive.

Then I heard about a company called One Green Bottle based in East Sussex
(and they are based just down the road from me :D) that sell very similar bottles to the Klean Kanteen (they could be the same, maybe rebranded? as they look identical).

So I ordered 2 - they arrived very quickly and are excellent, just what I was looking for.

The have a special offer on at the moment, so if you re looking for a BPA free bottle for yourself or your family check these out.

Thanks! I have a nasty old plastic gym bottle that needs replacing, but have never found something that I am happy to buy. Off to buy a new one now.

Thanks for posting this. My other half got a Klean Kanteen for Christmas, and he loves it! I've been meaning to order one for myself, just never seem to get around to it. I might check these out as well. FWIW, I definitely don't think they're the same bottles:

I just reuse a normal plastic mineral water bottle refilled from home. PET doesn't contain BPA. I've always thought fancy water bottles were a bit over the top and a waste of money.

PET can leach another chemical though, particularly if the bottle is "damaged" in any way. The Food and Drug Administration (America) says that the amount leached is not harmful, but why chance it? A bit of info on DEHP from Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DEHP

One of the biggest concerns with reusing plastic bottles, according to health officials, is that hard plastic and metal ones are easier to clean than their PET counterparts. It's not always the case, but the one-time use bottles tend to have more curvy bits, etc., where bacteria can go to hide.

As for the cost, well, I think that's a matter of simple mathematics. I'm not citing you personally, but I think the average person wouldn't use their water bottle for more than a few months. 2-3 quid a year quickly adds up to an equal or great amount than the tenner you'd spend on a steel bottle, which lasts for years.

    Anyway...just saying. :)

I also have bought bottles from one green bottle for my baby DD. You can buy one with a sippy lid (works with avent teats/ sippy lids) I have found it a bit of a pain in the baby stage so tend to keep water in it to take out, and put a bit in her normal baby beaker when she wants it, to minimise leaching. However once she can use the sports lid it will be great!!

Also if you get one I would scrub the printed label off, as at first my DD kept getting black on her fingers, and it was the label coming off on to her. I scrubbed it off and now fine.

Don't mean to sound so negative as they are a great company and the bottles are great for older children and adults, also for storing water in I have found them great, just wouldn't recommend the sippy lids! I would def buy from them again, although the bottles are so good they aren't going to wear out!

My SIL and Mum have these bottles too and we all think they are great. Delivered very quickly!

  • I just use a stainless steel flask. Sigg bottles have now got an 'ecoliner' or somesuch that is BPA free. I'm not convinced this is necessarily plasticiser free as there are many plasticiser chemicals. Fizzy drinks and alcohol are both acidic and come in aluminium cans so I suspect carrying water about in an aluminium canteen / container is not a problem. We seem to be replacing something that is quite safe with something that does leech chemicals. Aluminium only leeches when the contents are acidic, or possibly alkaline, and heated.

Bear in mind as a nation we consume millions of litres of drinks from aluminium cans. I suspect the contents are more likely to cause problems with cognitive function.
