Free Post Office Collect in December

Hi,
I'm not sure if this is the right board but feel free to move this thread if it is. Yesterday when i got home from a hard days christmas shopping, the postie had been and left a "Sorry, you were out card" in the letterbox. I'd been waiting for an order from HMV as a x-mas present, so i went royalmail.com to arrange redelivery. On the site it says that in December, they are waiving the 50p charge for the post office collect service. it may only be saving 50p but if you are having quite a bit delivered then it could save you some money and it may be more convenient to pick it up from your local post office on your way home from work/college/school than waiting in of a morning for the "reliable morning post".
anyway sorry for the long post
hope this helps some people out
merry christmas!

Ive never paid anything for a post office collect0

They do charge for this in Edinburgh. I tend to just go to the collection point thingy (with it's very limited hours), but it's handy to know they're waiving the fee to have it taken to my local P.O!

Thank you for posting - I work at the shop that has the local post office so this will be quite useful! That said, one or two posties deliver to me at work anyway cos they know I'm there!!What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0

Normally, it is definitely a 50p charge if you want to collect a parcel from your local PO. If the postie tries to deliver a parcel and you are not in, they leave a note with the options to collect from your local Collection Office (free but can be very busy) or from a nominated PO (50p but more convenient).
Given the number of parcels flying around this month I think the Royal Mail have made a good decision to make local PO collections free. I have just taken advantage of this (all online) and the parcel should be at my local PO on Monday.0 -
Post Office Collect is a load of rubbish. Done it with 2 parcels in the past and on both times they were not at the Post Office ready to collect on the stated collection dates. Now if I miss a parcel I just go to the sorting office to collect it.0

Not on my two occasions. First one I put it down as 'one of the those things'. But by the second time it happened I'd had enough and just make time to go to the sorting office to collect parcels if I'm not in when they arrive in the post.0 -
Have 3 local post offices here, have missed quite a few delivery's from the postman and had to collect at one of them and i don't ever remember being charged for it.0
