She has since had to buy a "proper" pair of boots this week at twice the price (in the sale)in our local Clarks

TBH i wouldn't get a proper pair of boots from Clarks, I would go to a camping shop or ecco, I would recommend ecco but at full price you are looking at £100. I only get mine from outlets (hence the £60) but they are well worth it!! Very light, waterproof and they keep your feet nice and toasty warm. I didn't even need to break mine in.

depends on the fabric and if she walked in puddles?! /heavy rain?!...

ive got some new boots from NEXT, real leather, but my toes on my socks r damp... but i think its just sweat!
  • On this, my flatmate is a posty. His "all weather shoes" provided by Royal Mail cause soaked feet in the slightest drizzle. And it has nothing to do with sweaty feet before anyone else mentions it...

    Can you keep it simple.
  • What? have I upset you in some way? What is going on here? The second post in a few minutes I have come across from you insulting me for no apparent reason.

Do you have soe grudge against sound information being given out?

    just what is your problem?
  • Oh, and could you stop polluting these threads with your comments and PM me these comments instead, or are you just trying to get some kick out of seing your rather strange commenst being seen on a public forum?

Comments like these do nothing to add to helping people out. Either shut up or PM me.

The whole point of having leather is that it breathes so your feet shouldn't be sweaty, unless they've been coated in some artificial layer to aid waterproofing but which then stops them breathing. Leather is not waterproof unless it is treated. Wellies on the other hand are made from a man made material which presumably the OP boots are so should be able to resist moisture (assuming they aren't canvas!)

Yes I know there are variables in my post but we don't know the full ins and outs. As for the boots being fashion boots well did it say it on the boot or is that just the SA term to get out of replacing them?
  • I bought some DM lookalikes for £14 recently. Thought they'd be hit and miss but they got me through this last weeks snow and weather very nicely. No wet, no cold, no slip (not sweaty either). Not leather but fashionable if you like that sort of thing :D And very reliable so far.

If I had gone for the 'fashion' boots I saw at the same time (similar price) I would have expected them to be wimpy for protection and worn something else instead.

You do get what you pay for, but it's more in the design.

    Thanks.

However I suggest that even if you don't want to pursue it can you do everyone a favour and report the store to trading standards with exact details of what happened.

You can do this online https://www.tradingstandards.gov.uk

The reason to report them is:
    1. Shops that try this on one customer try this on other customers
    2. While you consider this a small amount to lose other people won't.
    3. If not enough people complain about stores flouting the law then nothing will be done about them.

Oh and I remember 3 cases of people who have brought "fashion" boots in the past and have had problems with them.

Two of the pairs leaked when the owners walked around on a rainy day but as they were about £80 they got refunds with no difficulty. Another pair the heel fell off. The person got a refund with a lot of difficulty. That store Dolcis is not around any more.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p
