have you tried?? McD's etc in our area don't even advertise as they employ directly from overseas....McD's is Indian, KFC is polish etc. A whole new food court just opened in our local shopping centre and not one job was advertised, when OH enquired at job centre and shopping centre he was told there were no vacancies and Job centre said they'd had no notice of any jobs there.
Poland is in the EU so I can believe that KFC might do that. But India isn't, surely McD isn't allowed to do that?!

No I haven't tried but if I was the OP I would not accept defeat on this, I can't accept that a graduate can't get a minimum wage job (I'm trying to be encouraging not offensive)

Sorry to seem like I was jumping on you, it's just a very touchy subject for me at the minute!!!:o

I presume McD's must do something similar to a chain of nursing homes I worked in....they were approached by an agency to get a figure of how many staff they would need, the agency placed an ad in an Indian newspaper, dealt with all the (huge amount of) responses, sent 2 agency staff out to interview and select over 150 people to bring over to work on a contract where they were supplied with accommodation if needed for 3months, a guaranteed job, visa sorted etc and in return they had to work for the company for at least 12months before they could leave.
Not entirely sure of the details but that was the gist of it.

OP, have you considered trying to make some extra money by doing work from home for Avon or similar? It's no substitute for a real job but it might help keep your head above water until you find work.

Well Mrs how about Art teacher?? Art tech at a school??

In addition you could get some volunty work to get you out the house. I have been finding it hard to get voluntry work despite an enhanced CRB check, however the local school said they would bite my hand off! So hopfully I can get some work there.

Yes, and I guess state schools need PGCE for proper teaching work, but private schools don't necessarily require this

Also, what about offering conversation practice to foreign students on gumtree for a small fee?

Home tutoring aswell, friend does that for GCSE level, not that she has extra qualifications but did A level English and its more just kids whose parents work and can't be there to make sure they are doing homework or some kids that need extra help.......maybe you could do some art tutoring? At a push what about 'modelling' for local art classes/colleges?

    Deja vu?

Or is it just me?

Not just you. Strange to see two dyslexic women with fine art degrees in such a short space of time.

OP, for job ideas, I suggest looking through the thread by Tatieirregular.

The self-employed are eligible for JSA(IB)if they are not making enough to live on. However I am not classed as self-employed by the DWP - I think because It is my primary residence. .

Have you phoned up HMRC and registered as self employed? If you haven't, thats why the DWP have said you're not.

My uncle rents out flats and he lives in one of them. He's classed as self employed, pays Class 2+4 NIC and income tax on the profits.
