2.1 Desktop Speaker Recomendations

I'm on the lookout for some 2.1 desktop pc speakers.
I don't really want to spend too much.

Im thinking along the lines of:
Logitech Z-4
Altec Lansing VS2421
Logitech X-230

What are peoples experiences with any of these or any suggestions?;)

  • We have 2 set of 230's here - very good sound, loud enough for most people I would have thought (loud enough for son at uni too), perfectly happy with them, were only about £24 when we got them, but a while ago now.

The 240s are a tad cheaper, or even the 210s

    Thanks for a quick reply.

Comparing these on the Logitech website it seems that the 230s have the best output. The only advantage I can see with the 240s is the ipod cradle, which I'm not too fussed about.

Cheapest I have found is £29.99 at play.com.
Where did you get them for £24?

Under the "any suggestions" category, a very helpful comment on here by anewhope a few months ago steered me towards the Acoustic Energy Aego M combination.

They are excellent, have won many awards and I was extremely grateful to him.

Not necessarily expensive, either, they are quite frequently offered for sale, new, by a regular trader on eBay for £69.

My companion liked my set so much when she heard them that I bought another pair as a present for her. Her hearing is more acute and critical than mine and she loves them.

They're great speakers and can handle anything you throw at them - from the Brahms violin concerto to heavy rock. Thoroughly recommended for £70. More painfully recommended at their list price of £130.

Don't laugh at banana republics. :rotfl:

As a result of how you voted in the last three General Elections,
you'd now be better off living in one.

Thankyou for the suggestion. They look good and your testimonial sounds impressive.
I have just had a quick look on ebay and I have found some Aego Ms for £79 Buy Now or Best Offer, but the £20 delivery puts me off. This is a little more that I am willing to spend at the moment.

    Yeah; they're heavy :( . But that's because they're good.

Was able to collect my own set in person because the seller worked 5 miles from where I live! :)

For the second pair (which, as a present, had to be brand new and sealed) I paid £69 + £10 shipping, from the guy who sells them regularly.

Worth hanging on? Or making an offer on the one on eBay? Problem with doing the latter is that the seller might leave your offer "Pending" for five days, which would prevent you from buying any cheaper set that come up at a bargain price, on a Buy-it-Now, in the meantime. So, you'd really need to wait until the last day before making the offer.

They come in two colours, black and white. Black matched my monitor; white matched my companion's. :D The two little speakers are small but amazing. Metal. Good solid weight and take up little space on the desk top. Sub-woofer can sit behind the monitor, angled, or underneath the desk - if you're buying it for a computer, that is. They'd be good for plugging into a television, too. Like a 20" LCD in the kitchen that has unimpressive little speakers of its own.

Good luck, whatever you decide to buy! :)

  • I'm a massive fan of the 230's. Had them for years, not one problem.

    Some worthwhile reviews here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Logitech-X-230-Multimedia-Speaker-System/dp/B00069ZEA6/ref=pd_ts_ce_11?ie=UTF8&s=electronics
