Acer laptop - wireless stopped working

Hi we've got an Acer 5135 - almost 12 months old and it doesn't seem to be picking up the wireless networks any more. When I click on system devices etc it says:-
Atheros AR5007EG Wireless network adapter - "Windows stopped this device working because it is faulty....(code 43)" - I tried to look for new driver software - can't find any. Tried to log on to Acer site for help and it asks for the serial number of laptop - I can only find a number inside the battery compartment but the website keeps saying that's not a recognised number......
Firstly - where is the serial number likely to be? and any ideas on above problem.
thanks in advance

Hello there.
I know this might sound silly, but is there a wireless switch anywhere on your laptop, e.g. physical button or FN + F2 to enable/disable wireless?0 -
