It is now official I am dyslexic!

I think my assessment cost about £300 but I believed I had to pay for it because I went to an independent school and would have had it free if I went to a state school. I may be wrong though. I had mine done when I was 16 and my parents had some trouble finding an educational psychologist as I was much older than normal for a diagnosis. I had an initial assessment done at school that indicated that I was probably dyslexic although it wasn't official. It is worth the money though if going to uni as you do get all the extra support and equipment.0

I have known forever but as always nobody listened and then I fell out of the education system.
I re-stared college at 27 and at 28 I started another college. The first thing I did was go to the addition support dep and from there I was pointed in the right direction. However I had to wait over a yr for my test as I was too poor to pay for it and had to wait until I started uni as they were kind enough to fund it for me.Debt free and plan on staying that way!!!!0 -

I have now filled in the DSA form via the Uni and from what I understand I will be contacted soon with regards to a needs assessment.
Me too - finally diagnosed on Wednesday (with dyspraxia to boot)... Ironic really, in my last year (of a total of 13 years!!!) at University!
Anyone know how long the DSA stuff takes on average? Is it worth persuing it, given I graduate in August?April Grocery Challenge £81/£1200 -
I just wanted to say I sympathise with how hard it must have been to get through the whole of your school life and not be diagnosed. My older brother is extremely dyslexic and was just called a lazy or stupid child all his life...he still can barely read now at the age of 34.
I am in the slow long process of having my 6yr old son assessed as the teachers as well as me strongly believe he is dyslexic and dyspraxic. It gives me real encouragement to see that it is now possible to go on to attend university and get the help that is required to do well.
Well done on your achievements so far.
