  • Hey Daphne, you recently passed your driving test right?

any tips? I have not booked yet but really want to drive untill I actually get in the car and then I kinda freak....

    xx
    Hey Buffy :)

To be honest with you I was pretty !!!! at first - I was absolutely terrified of an accident, I was convinced I would be terrible at it, and with each lesson it got worse, not better.

So I switched to driving an automatic. Best decision I ever made! I told my (then) new instructor about my previous lessons and off we went and it was soooo much easier and fun - actually I think it would have been fine in a manual and the key thing was the instructor and not the car - but I stuck at it and passed after 30 hours :) I can drive a manual with someone else in the car but not alone, so I might take the test for it at some point but I love my little auto.

I used to tell myself that if bloody Jade Goody could learn to drive then I could too! And as for examiners - they are there to make sure you're safe, not catch you out. I really enjoyed learning once I got over the phobia - it was a bit weird and very out of character for me - the instructor has dual controls and can easily grab the wheel if they need to so nothing bad will happen! It will change your life, just being able to go and get a loaf of bread without being a military mission, or go swimming at night (no buses after 9) - the little things make such a difference, I wish I had done it years ago.

Sorry for the essay :o have faith and realise that plenty of stupid people learn and if they can, you can!

Hello Sally, will the assignment take long? I need to do something for work and I haven't got round to it yet but need to email it first thing on monday! demani....

ummmmm good question. I just find it so hard to put down in word what I need to say. When I went to uni.. *** uhum years ago** I studied Biomedical science so essay writing didn't really come into the course. This is a complete change for me and despite knowing what I need to write I just have found it so hard and impossible to find the time to sit down and do the work. It certainly has made me re-think my long term plans and won't be attempting a degree from home as I need the support and motivation of a class environment.

    Sorry I waffled a bit there didn't I !

i agree DD - I passed years ago but I started at 17 and kept giving up because i was so terrified. I went through a couple of instructors - it is important to get the right instructor. It took me six months and three tests and I just had to keep going.

can you do a structure thing and just build around it? I jot down key points and then expand on them but it all depends how your brain works!

The big ones, the mini ones I can cope with.

Buffy, when I was learning to drive the thing that terrified me most was right turns, I spent a good part of the lesson praying that I wouldn't be asked to do that!:o

Again, it's the mini-doublers I hate - especially with buses which can be on both roundabouts at once...
