Ikea kitchen units starting to warp after just a few months

DP installed our IKEA kitchen about 6/7 months ago. Tonight after cooking I noticed a 'wet wood' smell and after a bit of investigating noticed that the bottom edges of the top units, either side of the cooker, are starting to warp as though the steam from cooking has got under the top surface of the MDF. I do have an extractor fan which I switch on while I'm cooking but surely these units should be a bit more sturdy. If they are like this after just a few months then what will they be like after a couple of years - I dread to think! The units have a 10 year guarantee but are they covered for this?

I have looked on their website and they show pictures of kitchens with units above/either side of hobs so they are obviously built for this purpose. Has anyone else come across this problem - thanks.

  • Hi

I interpreted your post to mean that you have wall units above the worktop ,into which you have a hob (possibly gas), over the hob is an extractor.

Are the wall units fitted to the measurements indicated in the hob installation instructions?
No I haven't seen Ikea units do this.
