Celing Fan Wiring

Hello Everyone

I need some help with wiring for a ceiling fan, I have 3 connectors on the fan Live, Neutral and Earth, there are pull switches for the fan speed and the light.
From the ceiling i have 3 sets of 3 wires, 2 of these have black outer, 1 set has grey outer.
I am assuming that the grey outer is going to be the wiring from the switch, this being the case could someone advise me which wires have to be connected together and which wires would go into the light fitting connection. I would like it that the wall switch can be used.

Many thanks in advance.

Edit:- Appologies for the spelling mistake in the title, don`t suppose an admin can change it?

I am sure that a sparks can advise you better but your lighting rose would normally be part of a ring main with L,N & E in and out (2 sets) and a L to the switch and a switched live coming back,

Since you have an additional wire, maybe you have two-way switching in this room.

Obviously you need to identify which is which.

Not sure about your roof wiring, but I have installed a few of these and I have had to modify them all.
They are usually wired expecting one switched supply in and you have to use the pullcords for the light or fan. I don't like this as I prefer the wall switch to operate the light and a pullcord for the fan. You can usually separate out the two wires in the unit, perhaps need to fit a new 4 way piece of terminal block so you have terminals for <Earth> <Neutral> <Fan live> <Light live> The light live is fed from the wall switch return wire. The fan live is connected into the roof ring live using a short single insulated wire (strip from a bit of cable).
European for 3 weeks in August, the rest of the year only British and proud.

The best way to do that is set someone at the switch and you lick each wire in turn as they flick the switch! :rotfl:

SERIOUSLY - if you can't work it out from the instructions and what was there before you need a qualified person to assist you IN PERSON.

Without a more accurate description of what you have going on there you may as well take my advice above as any other you get on these forums (fora).

wire to the same ones that went to your original light fitting, usuall 1 to the black loop and one to the single wire return from the switch.

Before you attempt to do anything you must identify for certain, which is the switch wire. You cannot assume that it is the grey wire. Once you have found which wire it is then you have a chance of wiring the fan.
By the way, a note to both eliteheat and sillygoose. The lighting circuit is not a ring main. Ring main refers to a 13 amp power circuit, where the cables are run back to the consumer unit. The lighting circuit is a loop-in circuit and terminates at the final lighting position.
I will not offer any information on how to wire this circuit, as you have not given enough information about the colours of the other wires. What is the colour of the other core that is running in the same sheaf as the grey wire.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

Hear Hear - Col has wise words.

In addition to the loop in system it could alternatively be a junction box system - seriously GET HELP!
