So this credit crunch we are in ... How come all the lego sets are sold out?

Decided to buy DS a Lego fire station for Christmas. It should be about £39, that's the RRP on the lego site, but it's sold out.
Amazon sellers have them from £73.00
ebay buy-it-nows start from £65, with non buy-it-nows bidding up from £40 with days to go.
Now OK, it means my son won't get one (I'll wait until into the spring, and help him save up/earn money to buy it himself for the 'proper price').
But who is being daft enough to chase toys at stupid prices? We have lost sight of how to treat kids at Christmas, haven't we?

Is this it?
Or this?
Or this?
I'm not trying to be *smart*, they may well be the wrong thing ... I just vividly remember being frantic a couple of years ago when I couldn't find two items for my oldest son!

Thanks for trying Hush-Puppy, but unfortunately no, none of those are the right one. The correct one is http://shop.lego.com/ByTheme/Product.aspx?p=7945&cn=381&d=9, part number 7945.
I should have been quicker off the mark, but kind of assumed that the recession would mean they wouldn't sell out so quickly (or at all).I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say.

Hi
Try Scottstoybox.co.uk. It lets you add it to the basket, although there is a note that says more stock due Monday.
Hope you manage to find one!!Fashion on a ration 0 of 660 -
Have you tried Toysrus - they seem to have the biggest selection of Lego in my area and online - The set I wanted was £10 dearer, but did save quite a bit on other sets in Argos, and it is the set DS1 wants for his birthday on the 22nd...No Longer addicted to Boots! - Well not today anyway!! :blushing:

i'm buying all the lego... and building a 4 bed house from it... no mortgage, no planning permission, and if the area goes downhill, i can take it apart and put it up somewhere else.. or turn it into a spaceship.....0

OP try toys R us as we bought the firestation mega pack for our son last year and it was only a couple of weeks before christmas. The mega pack was £65 but you got a load of extra vehicles etc etc and absolutely fantastic value for money. The firestation is well worth the money if you can get one.Raising kids is like being held hostage by midget terrorists0

I was in Toys R Us the other day, there was a man in front of me buying lego and the cashier gave him a £20 gift card, apparently if you spent over £75 on lego you got this back. He couldnt believe it!!!!0

There's always something that goes bonkers at Christmas. Last year it was the Sportacus Lazytown skateboard thing with a handle. They should have been £29.99 and I saw people selling them (and being paid) for over £80 on Ebay. Madness.Debt cleared! [strike]£13,128[/strike] £0!!!

I'm pretty sure Toys r us will pricematch as well.....they certainly used to. I had bought a tomy road and rail set in Woolies about 5 years ago for £49.99, whilst shopping in Toys r us with a friend I showed her what I had bought in Woolies and she wanted to buy one for her child only it was £30 more. I happened to have the receipt in my bag from my Woolies purchase and they price matched it for my friend. Worth printing out details from Lego site to take with you to Toys r us and checking out if they still price match in the event of them charging more for the item than it is on the site you have seen it.0
