Aldi Sunday 5MP Digital Video Camera £58

Options
Aldi 5MP Digital Video Camera £58.00 I'm hoping to make some video's to upload to Google Video or You tube because I'm fed up with my work being deleted from forum's here.

Can anyone see any reason why this wouldn't be appropriate for the task.

I'm a bit worried that HDMI/AV Output may not be convertible to the format google says it needs
each file in MPEG4 format with MP3 audio or MPEG2 with MP3.

While we also support other digital formats such as QuickTime, Windows Media, and RealVideo, it's important to note that submitting your files in these formats may significantly delay us from using them on Google Video.
Here are our preferred video specs:
NTSC (4:3) size and framerate, deinterlaced
Video Codec: MPEG2 or MPEG4 (MPEG4 preferred)
Video Bitrate: at least 260Kbps (750kbps preferred)
Audio Codec: MP3 vbr
Audio Bitrate: at least 70Kbps (128 Kbps preferred)

Is it possible to convert or is it better to get a camcorder that works in MPEG4 with MP3 audio. The camera is supposed to play MP3's but as I haven't ever used MP3 it's all a mystery.

Your work does not get removed from forums. It gets removed from wherever you're hosting the files which is why the links no longer work and images don't appear.

It comes with software to downscale to a youtube friendly format, as far as I can tell. (Read the ad this morning.)

But even if it doesn't you could use a free tool like super to convert to an appropriate format.

The camcorder is capable of capturing really rather high quality video, which you'll be able to transfer digitally via USB cable, but there's no way you'd be able to upload this directly... the files will be WAY too big (it's 720p video.)

You'll have to downscale first, for the sake of the time it takes to upload, youtube's file size limits, and your ISP's monthly bandwidth quota.

  • Hi, I have seen this video camera in Aldi and am interested in purchasing.
Can anyone tell me if is good value for money, all we want it for is for video use on holiday and basic stuff. How do you save your video filming, to clear the memory to film over and over.
Any help please, or should we invest in a more expensive one?
    Thanks Joy

You upload (transfer) the video to your computer and then wipe the memory. That way you can film again.

If its just a basic camera you need then i'm sure this will do the job. It looks fairly good for the money. Doubt you'll find much better for under £60!
This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.
  • Thanks Gaz for your reply.
So I keep a library of videos on my computer to watch at a later date.
I have already got a Sony Cyber-shop digital camera, but would like a small compact easy to use/carry video recorder, do you think the Aldi one would be what I am looking for?
