Car data
Hi all,
I am trying to sell my car and have been contacted by company called car data. They have told me that for a fee of £80 they will advertise my car until it is sold. They told me that the longest it has taken to sell a car has been 3 weeks. They have told me a price which will be a good price for my car. They also said that I will get my money back when I sell the car because the buyer will arrange finance through the company. I have never heard of the company before and wondered if anyone had used them or had any comments about them?
Thanks

Erm, sounds slightly suspect to be honest to me...
Not heard of them at all, or anything like this.0 -
My daughter used a very similar company and it was a complete waste of money! Not one phone call!
These companies offer very poor marketing and you are very unlikely a sale will be made. You are better off using more recognised company like like "Auto Trader"0 -
A waste of £80 if you ask me. Auto Trader is the most read auto classifieds magazine and its also regional, with photos etc and available on the net www.autotrader.co.uk ... also costs half as much to advertise there.
Cardata dont actually guarantee anything. All they do is supposedly advertise the car until it sells. I buy cars quite often and I havent even got a clue where they advertise. Avoid!!If you found my comment helpful, please click the 'Thanks' button below :T0 -

The way all of these canvassing firms conduct their business is disgraceful and is as close to being a confidence trick as the law allows.
Put it this way how many people do you know who go firms like Car Data when they are looking to buy a car?
They just prey on the gullible.0 -
Weren't these lot on Watchdog a few months back?!?! I could be wrong but if it wasn't them then it sounds like a similar scam.
If ANYONE contacts you offering a service then tell them where to go. Its always best to choose where you want to sell your car yourself and get recomendations. Autotrader, local papers etc are all good bets!

Car Data "We have plenty of people wanting a car like yours on our books and will be queuing to come and see it".
£80 later.
No phone calls, nothing.
mmm plenty of people eh?
This was about 5 years ago now and they sound plausable.
I'd never heard of them before paying it and was in a rush to sell.
They have rung a few of my mates since when they were selling cars and they were nearly convinced. Luckily they didn't take up the offer straight away and kept the money in their pocket.
Put an ad in autotrader and 90% of the calls you get are from companies like this.

This is why people put "NC" aka No Canvassers in their adverts. Sell it yourself and make £80 more.Happy chappy0
