does what I belive freeview+ does but can't see a mark
I purchased one 3 months ago- worked fine- although "guide" did not always work- but it was just connected to a set top arieal! - also a bit noisy
Thank you
But I need a freeview+ as my mother is in her 70s (& not very good with things like this) & needs a REALLY simple one.
I think freeview+ is susposed to be the easiest to use.0 -
Freeview+ boxes are not necessarily easier to use than any other PVR, it is just a system that makes sure programmes are reccorded correctly, even if they don't start on time. The F+ boxes must also have an 8 day guide and series link ability. It used to be called 'Freeview Playback' so any boxes marked with this are the same as F+. You are unlikely to find anything much cheaper than £70-£80 with this ability at the moment, and as a general rule, the cheaper you go, the less money the company will have spent on making the box user frendly (but obviously there are some exceptions).
I recommended this one to my girlfriend's mother from argos:

You will find 40hrs of TV fills up pretty quickly, so get the 160gb version if you can afford the extra tenner.
This is to replace a cheap goodmans one that less than a year on keeps on packing up! Worth getting from a shop you can easily take it back to rather than an online retailer, I think.0 -

Unfortunately, PVRs don't have a good reputation for reliability.0 -

Eh? Based on what? There are more than 5 million PVR users in this country. How can you make a claim that they are unreliable? Are people really that fooled by crap technology?0 -
This is a good pvr for the money. Ive had mine for over 18 months with no problems.
You wont get a cheaper twin tuner anywhere else.
Also my mum got one and the first one was faulty, they sent out a new one and refunded postage for returning the faulty one with no hassle at all. Would use the company again.0 -

Have you read the digitalspy forum?
Some need a strong signal to be stable, some freeze and some EPGs are distinctly user unfriendly! Not to mention noisy drives.0 -

Yes I read it regularly, like all products there are issues with pretty much all technology products. But to say that PVRs in general are unreliable is a bit wrong and a sweeping statement. There are thousands of perfectly happy users, a forum is always going to give a negative view of any product. Very few people log on to extoll the vritues of any product when it works, if anything doesn't work then they are on like a shot. There are very few times where you will see everyone come out in force and declare they have the same issue, some units will be faulty, it's the nature of manufacturing.
Likewise someone paying £50 for a PVR will likely be disappointed with a product that someone else has paid £200 with a different manufacturer. The premium sometimes pays benefits in that the company has actually thought what a user wants rather than how to flog something to the market as cheap as possible.0
