Winfixer2005, can it be trusted?

Options
Last night this Winfixer popped up on screen. It says I have 2330 invalid items on my PC and this programme would sort it out. I normally ignore pop-ups but this one looked official. Problem is they want $39.99 which makes me suspicious.
Any help gratefully appreciated - Michael

Just the 2330 invalid items? You must have got off lightly!

The three hits when Googling for "winfixer 2005" talk about its removal. That gives a clue!

I installed the first three mentioned by Browntoa. Ad-Aware seemed to do the trick. It quarantined the bad stuff and Winfix symbol disappeared from the desktop. Is that the end of it? Do I need to install the other stuff? Is it recommended to do so anyway?

seeing you had one infection its probably worth doing the full set just to be sure, sometimes one bit of software will pick up stuff that the others miss, and the online scanners mentioned will pick up more even when you think you are clean !!

you may need to go through the whole thing more than once but it will be better in the long run
