Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????
  • The best combination of Spec, price etc is currently the Samsung NC10.

Available from ebuyer.com for about £300.

OR - If budget not that high the MSI Wind (novatech.co.uk) or Advent 4211 (pcworld.co.uk), the same machine, different branding.

    I have one, its excellent!

NC10 - got mine yesterday from Play.Com (£279 with Quidco, but it's gone up since I ordered it as it's getting loads of "it's the best netbook" reviews and thus in short supply)

I'm amazed at the battery life, it's still showing 30% after 5 hours use!

I also have an original Asus EeePC 701 which I've had all year, used it every day, but the just over 2hr battery life was rubbish. And Linux is awful, nothing I want to run is available on it, and it's the biggest convoluted pain ever to install new software... I'm enjoying the familiarity of XP in the NC10.

Most of the UMPC's are full of the same components - a 1.6 Atom, 1 gb ram and a 9 or 10" screen. Only the bundled software and hard drive size seems to change :)

AFAIK the Tosh has a real hard drive, whereas the Dell has a solid state drive as standard..

Yeah, they're pretty standard spec. The big difference is the battery, most come with a 3-cell battery (2 or 3 hours), whereas the odd one comes with 6-cell (NC10, a few EeePCs etc)

Important to consider the build quality on these if it is going to be on the move a lot. That is when the ASUS come to its own.

I think the NC10 is on QVC at midnight (or it could be the ACER one) as Today's special value.
