best buy for laptop?

What is the best deal out there to buy a laptop for my mum?
My mum is no expert on computers, so I'm after one that's built in wirless, My mum is the chair person for a local community that is all volunteer work, but ofter has to write a lot of letters and design simple posters and send a lot of e-mails.

Acer Aspire 7520 TK53 1GB 17" Gemstone Laptop

Can anyone tell me if this is a good one to buy? I know there is a code for an extra £13 off too.

I have no idea about laptops, but my mum struggles with her eye sight, so I thought a 17" would be better.

Can anyone find a better deal than this please?

Think you'll find this Toshiba L300-19Y hard to beat for the price!! £358.
    Core 2 Duo T5800, 160Gb hard drive, 3Gb memory.

  • The Toshiba is good value for money, though it may not necessarily be the right machine for your mum. You have to ask yourself what features are most important for her.

If all she's going to do is write letters and send e-mails, she doesn't need that much RAM or 160GB hard drive. The Toshiba weighs 2.5kg (the Comet site says that it's 2kg, but that's wrong). 2.5kg is a sack of potatoes. Is your mum going to carry the laptop around with her, or will it mostly sit on a desk? I carry mine around. I would not buy one that's that heavy. I have a Toshiba, but it's a lot lighter.

Also, I'd stay away from Acer. My last laptop was an Acer. I had a million problems with it, which the repair centre refused to acknowledge. In the end, the screen fell off. Seriously.

If you're after a good brand, decent laptop, I'd go with this:
