Strange letter from Barclaycard

I have just received in the post a letter from Barclaycard thanking me for applying for a credit card but my application has been unsuccessful on this occasion.

I have never applied for a Barclaycard. Do you think this could be someone obtaining my details and trying to use them?. Whats the best thing to do here please. Do I write back to them and advise it wasn't me.

I would do so, my son has just received several CC companies and HP companies getting in touch with him regards applications he never made (in his case he was successful, they just wanted a coople of other details) he hadn't made any of the applications. He now has a fraud alert on his credit file notifying companies to get in touch with him any time a credit application is made, a bit of a pain, but at least it mean his finances should be a bit more secure

Get a copy of your files from the Credit reference agencies and check existing accounts and any searches made with your details. This will give you a better idea what you're dealing with. If you haven't used them before Experian and Equifax offer a free trial for their online service (otherwise get the £2 Statutory report)
  • Yesterday, I received an email - addressing me by my full name telling me that my Barclaycard application had been successful and my card should be with me in ten days - Great news but I've never applied for a Barclaycard.

I rang complaints dept from website who investigated and rang back to say that lots of these emails had been sent out in error. Perhaps it's the same with the letters. If you ring Barclays, they can tell you whether an application has been made.
