In Holland and Barrett at the moment they have some ginger cordial-type stuff that you can drink without it being watered down. It's very gingery, but non-alcoholic. They had a deal on it, 3 bottles for £10 (I think if I remember correctly). We've been adding it to beer and it's been v tasty!

Our local co-op (in middle of Scotland) doesn't stock the yu-lade any more. I would love to know where else to get it as my DH's granda made it every year and it would mean a lot to him if he could continue the tradition.Making small changes everyday....0

Knew that ginger wine rang a bell. This recipe was my grandmas and about 50 years old, never made it though, i might give it a try if you think it works. This is the recipe exactly as written on a piece of paper in my very old cook book hope it works for you.
1/2 oz essence of ginger,
1/2 oz essence of cayenne,
1d burnt sugar, 1oz tartaric acid,
3 pound sugar,
5 quarts boiling water,
Put all in a large bowl and stir till dissolved, when cold, bottle and it is ready for use.Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take but by the moments that take our breath away. – Hilary Cooper
