keep the heating on all the time?
Options
In the past I have always had my gas heating on from 7am to 9pm each day with the thermostat set on 19 occasionally up to 20 if its very cold.
During the recrnt cold spell I have left the heating on constant at 18o.....my question is, which is the cheaper way??????

Hi i have found over the past 2 years from comparing it is cheaper for us to have it constantly running and just adjust it at the thermostat when necessary

I think 18c is a good temperature to keep it at. However, on warmer days you could go one or two degree down still, and wear a nice comfy jumper.
Then again, I do not feel the cold very much and am happy at 16c, so my advice may not be pertinent...Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0 -
Not sure I understand the logic of this.
19c in a room is 19c regardless of the outside temperature. Obviously if it is very cold outside you will use more fuel to keep it at 19c; but if you are happy at 19c when it is mild outside, why turn it up to 20c when it is cold outside?0 -
We turn it up because our back windows ar not double glazed and we lose a lot of heat through them, so when the outside temp is low so is the inside temp especailly on the landing and in the kitchen, bathroom and bedroom. I have been trying for 3 years to get the landlord to put in double galzing on the back of the house, but to present nothing doing, I wish that we could get a grant to get them done (we ar pensioners) we did get CWI and loft insulation done a couple of years ago which have helped a great deal.

I have mine on 20 degrees from 6pm to 10pm even though I'm in for most of the day. I just put jumpers on when I'm cold. My gas bill is £15 per month.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

I leave my heating on all the time. If the heating wasn't on the temperature would drop below 10 degrees at night and take for ages to warm up again. I leave it on 12 degrees at nigh and most of the day and 18 degrees at night.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4

If I leave my heating on at night I wake up with a terrible sore throat in the morning. Wish I could though.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040
