I am with ebico and have just had my bill in.

It covered 95 days.

Electric used 362 units based on actual reading. The price changed on October 2nd. So it is now 14.16 KWH. Total bill £49.61

Gas used 42 units based on actual reading. Again price changed on October 2nd to 3.59 kwh. Total bill £15.78

I have used uswitch using the above data and paying on receipt of bill it says that ebico equidual would save me nothing and everything else is in red which is a minus number. But on the equidual the gas is more expensive by a smidge than what I am paying now.

I do know that of course we are heading towards the coldest part of the year so expect my gas bill to leap up. I have my reason for not paying on DD due to the fact I can't afford to be paying silly amounts when I am low user and lower income.

If I choose Fixed DD then I could save £64.76 by going with Npower paperless dual fuel deal.

Any thoughts?

To save that £64 (over a year) you will have to pay an extra £108 in advance, ie £9 per month or an extra £27 per quarter! Plus you will only receive that £108 back if you stay the full twelve months. Plus you have to cope with what nPower will try to set the DDs to. Plus that money is forfeit if prices go up and you want to switch (okay, chances are prices will go down but you are stuck with nPower for twelve months.) Plus you don't have the flexibility of making a payment when YOU have the money to spare. Is that worth risking to have a notional saving of £5 per month credited to your account in 13/14 months time?
  • IMO npower's paperless tariff is to be avoided for the simple reason it ties you in for a year in order to benefit from the discount - I personally wouldn't tie myself in with ANY energy company for 1 month let alone 12. There are IMO better alternatives out there if you are looking to switch which DON'T require you to stay for a year to benefit. Ebico's leccy is frankly ridiculously overpriced IMO so moving from that should be a priority BUT to make any real savings you would need to pay by DD....

I pay off my own back £15 to each of the gas and electric accounts. And pay any excess when the bill came in. This gas £33 in credit. Before this months £15 payment. And electric is £23 something to be paid. Again not paid the this months £15 so an extra £8 something this month to be paid.

    I doubt that I would have a £15 or £20 a month DD.

Yes they are a little bit pricey but is it really worth it. I looked at electric only and it was BG click 6 and would have saved me £23 over the course of a year but again says payment method of DD. Is really worth the hassle for £23

If you usage is ultra low, then maybe not...but this IS a money-saving site so expect it to be pointed out that cheaper deals exist elsewhere. The choice of whether you think they are worth it in your circumstances is entirely yours, of course. I think the crunch will come for Ebico is the new year when the bills come down. The size of their decrease will be crucial IMO. Their increase this time was, after all, one of the biggest (if not THE biggest) of all the energy companies.

You are in a similar situation to me Calley, have avoided going to nPower for the reasons outlined by Kim and Carmine.
For £23 not worth the move to BG6 if you don't like DD, tho it looks like you are doing your own regular payments.
At least you are in control.
