It's up to 50%, not 50% off everything.0

i wonder if the abingdon warehouse has any offers on?0
-
nothing special in pier meadowhall yesterday, just the usual 30% off everything and 50% off some christmas stuff. has been running for ages. need 70% off to get me to buy anything, it's lvoely but expensive0
-
I am glad it isn't just me who thinks it is all over priced. I have a friend who swears by the place - Probably why he's always skint LOL
It will be a shame to lose them from the Westfield but maybe if their stuff wasn't so expensive to begin with more people would shop there...just a thought~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Don't ever stop believing........
Never get tired of watching you, someday you will break through.....0 -
The shops in Debenhams in Essex Basildon and Romford are still open..0

Always felt their stuff was overpriced for what it was. It's the same kind of thing that Au Naturelle sell for a lot less, ie. 90% tat with the occasional funky thing you might like to buy. Au Naturelle went bust and were bought out too if I recall.
Saw yesterday that Klik and Max Spielman had called in the administrators. There will be a lot more retailers going bust in the coming year I expect.0 -
Mna this is so sad- I love/d the Pier- it will be greatly missed! Nowhere else sells candels as cheaply!0

Aww, I really liked the things The Pier stocked.
I agree it was very pricey but I have bought a few birthday/housewarming gifts for people from there in the past, usually when they have been on offer.
Where can you go these days for something a bit different? We're all going to have a giant Tesco in our high streets to buy everything from at this rate......0 -

TBH was only going on what the Times wrote

It does seem that we are losing a lot of business's at this time although most of the ones we have lost either had longterm problems which includes MFI, Woolworths and the Bowie Castlebank Group (Max Spielman etc). All either chronicly badly run or have been hanging on in a reclining market.
Some, and Woolworths is a prime example, could have got out of trouble if there was long term support from banks, its the banks wanting their money back now that pushed it over the edge.
It also seems we are going to see the end of some of the more pointless retailers who have been getting away with selling high price tat to people with more borrowing capacity than taste for years.
All in MHO of courseI started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.0 -
Sigh .... I've used the Pier to kit out a couple of our places this year. Excellent quality furniture and given the number of 30-50% off sales they had during 2008, not as pricey as most would think.
Popped into one last weekend to get a refund but turned away at the sight of the huge crowds at the tills! Went back on monday at a "quiet" time to find crowds/queues just as bad! The sales were an obvious sign of trouble, especially after ILVA went under a few months ago, but I was hoping the cash coming in over Christmas would see them through in the short term
Luckily waited and got my refund though!0
