New printer, budget of £50 any ideas?

Options
Hi,

My old Epson C42 printer has unfortunately died on me, it was a long slow lingering death Im afraid to say!

Im now looking around for a budget printer, as long as it can print a good photo, im not bothered about looks. Compatible cheap cartridges are a must though, as I am a skinflint!

Im thinking of £50 maximum, anyone any ideas?

  • Hi
I have the Epsom 830u, excellent photos and text, I think its a bit more than £50 though, have a look here for epsoms, you'll find one for the price your looking for http://www.pricerunner.co.uk/computing/peripherals/printers/browse?sort=3&search=epson

I can recommend Canons - I've just hooked the F-i-L up with a Pixma 1600 and he seems chuffed with it. Inks seem reasonable to replace as well:

    Pixma IP1600
    Pixma IP2200

The only extra factor is postage on those prices...

if you are only doing a lot of b&w printing you can't do better than getting a cheap laser. They often sell for about £60 or less and are far cheaper to run than inkjet anf the ink doesn't run either.

Thanks a lot for your advice, I was considering buying a ip2000, looked at the ip2200, but there are no compatible cartridges out there.

Found a ip2000 in Dixons the other day, last one on shelf and they wouldnt budge on price, Currys website are out of stock, does anyone know where I can get one for around the £50 mark?

  • get a canon, i have always used them as they tend to be best all round. get an ip2200 for £45 at http://www.misco.co.uk/productinformation/~105510~/CANON%20IP2200%20INKJET.htm

    Sorry that's £53 including vat

  • Looking around at the IP2000, it seems to be an older model that a lot of places no longer stock and the few that have quote prices around £65.

My advice would be to look for a different model.

I agree its difficult to get hold of, and as Ive said the ip2200 is better, but the cost of cartridges are expensive, if I could get cheaper compatibles then that would be ok, are there any out there?
