Argos CC and PayPal

in Credit cards
I've just got an Argos Mastercard. I've only been using it since the end of last week and so have only a couple of transactions, one of them being a PayPal payment for an ebay purchase I made and another which has appeared being a Foreign Exchange Fee for roughly 3% of the Paypal amount.
Does anyone know if Argos charge a fee for purchases from a different country, even when in GBP? The only thing I can think of is PayPal are registered in Luxembourg, but my purchase was on ebay UK from a UK seller in GBP.
It's only 19p and so not a big thing I'll just move Paypal back to another card, I was trying make this my main purchase card as it's got "Moneyback", well Argos vouchers but that's close enough.
Thanks.

Seems a bit strange for it to be happening with Argos as it's a Mastercard. There was (or maybe still is) an issue with AMEX cards being debited in USD through Paypal but AMEX were refunding the charges to cards.
Perhaps it's worth speaking to Argos about it to see if you can get it refunded?
You're not the only one to have noticed though:

It all depends on how PayPal processed the transaction. Argos (or whoever administrates their cards), only charge for what PayPal shows on that transaction.0

I wish I had seen this before setting up my new Argos card for Paypal, luckily due to being on holiday, I have only incurred 13p of charges.
When I phoned them, they said it is because Paypal's bank to whom the money is paid is in Luxemburg.
What I cannot understand is that Argos & Skycard both use Barclaycard and my old Skycard card only received fees, when I was buying items that were billed in $ or Euros outside of the UK.
So I have switched from this today to my Halifax card whom told me they would not charge me fees.0 -
Yeah, I wish I had known this too before grabbing an argos credit card !0

I've updated this thread (http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/...gos+mastercard) but have also found a foreign exchange fee.
Did any of you manage to get a refund?
I'm now at the stage of waiting for complaints to call me back...0 -
Thanks for resurrecting my thread, you know you've made it when a year after you first post you reappear near the top of the list again.
I didn't complain I just moved my Paypal payments back to my BoS card and that's the way I'm still working it. I've had about £50 in Argos vouchers over the last year so hasn't turned out too bad.0 -
Thanks for this - I have had an Argos card for a few months now and it's been a pain in general, but I didn't know about these Paypal charges. Have just found one on my latest statement so will not be using this card for paypal any more.
Could anyone who has an argos mastercard tell me when the vouchers are sent? I think they said quarterly, but is that 3 months from having the card, or on the first of every third month or what? Just wondered, 'cos I haven't had any yet and I'm sure I've had the card three months or more.0 -
Just to bring a bit of 'closure' to this thread, yesterday my Argos card was credited with a refunded foreign exchange fee of 19p. In the last 15 months the only foreign exchange fee I've been charged was the 19p for using Paypal, see original post above, so thanks to all who complained.0
