CCTV Camera for home security (car vandalised!)
Comments

Hello,, thanks for the posts guys,, there is lots of useful information.
I have taken some photos from my window and here are the photos (i panarama's them to show the perspective)
if you click on link and do "save image as" you can get the full size image.
Basically,,, on the very right is my allocated parking space (ringed in red),,, but i could park my car on the road (like where the blue clio or the white van is),, but obviously if it is busy i cannot guarantee there will be spaces.
this was taken at 10pm tonite,, so this is a good indication of the light levels (taken with normal digital camera with no flash).
Does anyone have any more comments about which CCTV camera to get or whether i need a Night mode one or anything?
Regards to you all
I have looked at your panorama pics and it appears that you parking space is a fair way from your window. Is this the case?
Anyway, as suggested in a previous post above, a wireless camera hidden in your car, looking through a window (not easy I know) and transmitting a pic back to your basestation and being recorded onto a video recorder, (for ease) would do the trick.
One word of warning though, the wireless cameras that are commonly available, run on the same frequency as you wireless router, 2.4Ghz???? (if you have one). The cameras will mess with the signal that your router and pc use to 'chat' to each other.
I know from personal experience, have a look at this thread

I am currently looking at putting up 2 IP cameras which wont interfere with my router, and selling the wireless cameras that I bought previously. The pic quality on the wireless cameras is very good indeed. However I dont want to choose to run my camera system OR the router and PC. I want to be able to use both at the same time.

you have pm mate. you can record and use your pc, it takes some overhead, depends on what FPS and extras yhou use, e.g let the camera deal with motion detection not the software for lesser overhead. (thats where spending more on a camera helps you)
I use CCTV cameras that can output nearly 30fps, which is amples, but i set them at 15 fps, not 3 or 4 like you see on crime watch!0 -
Hi all,
I have been reading your comments and seems viable. I think software should be ok to find, its just going to be finding a camera that is my issue. I would like something compact, and easy to mount, any ideas, the one on ebuyer seems a bit bulky.
Flashy,, i did not get your PM?0 -

So you have decided to go with the IP based system (linked to your home network)?
Keep us posted on your search for a camera as I am also loking for suitable equipment. I have not however ruled out the cameras that 'Flashy' mentions in post #4
Cheers

i have a home wireless network so a 2.4ghz wireless cam is out the question.
Is a IP camera ethernet conncted to a PC?
So was looking at getting a cheap small PC, put it in a cupboard, connect it to my wireless router, and then using remote access control that PC from my laptop.
So could i use a USB camera, anyone have any experience of these?
Im worried that with the wireless camera option It could be affected by my wireless router?0 -
Hello again,, I have finally invested in a nice CCTV camera, has IR and works well at night when i plug it in my TV. next step is to get it working on my laptop to record the video.
I am looking for a USB video in device. Have seen some on eBay but a lot look cheap and nasty. Anyone suggest a good device?0 -
