Sky+ viewing problems

Hi

I've been having some problems lately with my sky+.
When watching Tv the picture freezes quite frequently, and now to the point where it's becoming annoying. When the pic freezes, I change channel, then back again and the picture is fine, then it freezes again:mad:

This does not happen on any of the bbc or itv channels, but does happen on the documentary channels and some sky movies and the watch, dave and gold channels.

The freezing only happens when watching the live broadcast and not when watching something I've previously recorded from the channels above:rolleyes:

Has this happened to anyone else before? or does anybody have a clue as to whats causing it?

My sky+ was installed over 6 years ago, so is well out of any warranty!

please help:D

Hiya, the problems could be as follows:

    1: Duff LNB
2: Duff Cable (water gets inside)
3: Dish has gone out of alignment (due to wind)
4: A tree has grown over the past 6 years and is now blocking the signal
    5: Duff Set Top Box

Could be any of the above so get your local TV shop to have a peep

Edit: The reason you have good BBC channels is that they use a higher bandwith than other channels, hence why you can get a good reception on those.
  • Sure its out of warranty and Sky will claim you need to pay for their engineer to come out and sort it but (and it was the Sky engineer who told me this) say you'll cancel unless they come out for free and they will cave in.

No they won't. If you feel you need to cancel and you are not in contract, they will cancel. Credit crunch and all.

Go into the Services menu and select System Setup and Signal Test, this will give you a quick idea as to if the signal is duff.

A new dish and alignment kit and cable are dirt cheap if you're prepared to get your hands dirty and not get ripped off. It's dead easy to put up a dish and align it. Astra even give you guidance on their website. I did my dish for less than £50.

If the existing dish isn't too rusty you could just try a £5 dish meter and align it only. But don't forget the self amalg tape to make the connection water tight again.

  • If you're comfortable checking the dish, have a look at the pole it's attached to - a long time ago we had a cowboy fit our dish, he put the mounting pole on back to front - so rain water was gathering in it and affecting the picture. Could be as simple as that...
