Whilst not wanting to poo-poo a freebie, NLP has all the hallmarks of pseudo-science - http://www.theness.com/neurologicablog/?p=228 and http://skepdic.com/neurolin.html should be good starting points for more balanced info than you'd get from the woo-peddlers.

Have you ever used it? I have and I can tell you it does work.

It's a sign of the times when Brits know more foreign phrases than their own regional sayings. A new report conducted by Travelodge has revealed 85% of Britons can understand European phrases but only 46% of adults can decipher British regional dialects such as Geordie, Scouse and Cockney.

If this is true you need to get out more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This isn't really the place for a discussion about the merits or otherwise of any particular therapy, but I was directly challenged, so I'd be being untrue to my sceptical self if I didn't reply ...

That's excellent for you, really it is. But it's completely irrelevant. I haven't tried Hopi ear candles, or coffee enemas. I've never had an astronomical reading, or had my aura read. But that doesn't stop me from reading the published literature about these things, and knowing that they're complete bunk.

I wouldn't take anything away from an individual's experience of [insert-any-therapy-or-alt-med-here], but that doesn't alter the fact that a lot of these things (NLP included) have little or no evidence in their favour.

The original work on NLP *did* have some merit and was pretty interesting but, like most of these things, it's been hyjacked by the hucksters and the charlatans and more often than not, it's an incredibly efficient method of doing nothing but rip people off.

Which isn't the case this time, as they're freebies, so I'll shut up and take my opinions elsewhere ;)

  • Big thanks. I really enjoyed them. NLP works if you are good at it.

I've worked in Training & Development for nearly 20 years and there are elements of NLP that are unproven as far as the scientific validity is concerned.

Personally I sit in the unconvinced camp as far as NLP as a science is concerned, however a lot of NLP is founded on sound principles and it has been shown to work for a lot of people. Elements such as anchoring, modeling, mapping and self-talk are all generally recognised as useful tools for self development.

You should take out of this what you need and keep an open mind.

Thank you will keep an open mind until I've listened to it :santa2:
  • Does anyone know if it's true, but I heard that in New Zealand, if you want to be a teacher you are required to be fully NLP trained?

Doesn't surprise me at all. It is under the guise of COMMON PURPOSE and is MIND CONTROL.

It's likely that you've never heard of an organisation called Common Purpose, unless that is you are a 'leader' or aspire to be one. People urgently need to be aware of what it is doing.

It began in the UK in 1988, where it has some 45 offices, but has now taken its sun symbol logo into many countries as Common Purpose International.
These include France, Germany, Ghana, Hungary, India, Ireland, Netherlands, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and Turkey.

It is also moving in on the United States. This is its stated goal: 'Common Purpose aims to improve the way society works by expanding the vision, decision making ability and influence of all kinds of leaders.
The organisation runs a variety of educational programmes for leaders of all ages, backgrounds and sectors, in order to provide them with the inspiration, information and opportunities they need to change the world.'

Can you kick a ball against a wall, and head it till you burst it?

And yes, I'm from the Potteries also. :)

Next challenge - anyone know what the word 'nesh' means (and I'm not going to give the context!).
