Closing Barclays Additions account

I've been with Barclays for 12 years and I''ve had an additions account for about 5 years some of the benefits I have used like Insurance, legal advice etc. They have now put the monthly fee up to £10 I've also got a £1000 overdraft and its costing me about £25 a month just for the bank account! I'm thinking of closing it and maybe opening a A & L, I was just wondering if I told Barclays of my intentions would they try to give me an incentive to stay.
Anyone tryed this?
Thanks in advance for any help

I briefly changed to the Barclays Additions Plus account in the summer. Yes, they offered loads of extra perks and benefits, but you effectively paid so much extra per month. I was lucky to do it for 3 months, and before the end of the three months, I was able to cancel it and get my monthly repayments refunded and revert back to the original account. I saw it as a loophole for getting free travel insurance to Africa for 7 of us at the time and it worked. So, if you don't want the hassle of changing banks, just revert back to a more basic account.0

i did exactly the same when they put it up from 5.00 to 7.50, decided it wasn't worth it so I went in and just changed my account back to a normal account and they were fine, I was honest and said they were charging too much and I wasn't prepared to pay to keep my money in their bank,.

My other half banked with this account for 21 years. When he realised earlier this year that he was getting no real benefit (especially a pants interest rate on his current account) he went into another bank who very helfully helped him to switch.
The new bank (abbey) gave him a personal banker, higher interest and all the benefits except the £10 that he was being charged monthly for not much at all by Barclays. Barclays didn't even contact him when the account was closed down and he had spent the last 21 years depositing considerably good monthly earnings.0 -
I phoned Barclays today and asked to go back to a normal current account they put me through to someone else and I told them why they didn't even comment, I asked what APR I would now have to pay on my overdraft 15.5%! so gonna transfer it to Egg Money0

I was converted to additions twice and both times had to tell them to convert the account back to normal.Happy chappy0

Big four are currently having more account closures than opens. Because they are pants.

Thanks to this site, I'm in the process of moving from additions plus to A&L. I reckon I'll save about £300 this year in charges.0
