Talk Talk called offering a 'renewal of contract.Beware!!

Talk Talk called yesterday (from an English call centre)and said my contract is up for renewal and do I want to renew?

I asked what are the benefits of renewing and she said because Talk Talk may put their prices up.
I said,"So it is like capping, like on my electric?"
"Not exactly",came the reply...So can I put you down for a renewal then?"
She was being rather pushy with me.
I said No.
She asked Why?
I said that I hated being on an 18 month contract in the first place, and would rather seek some advice from the Talk Talk members forum before I commit myself.
She said could she cal me back tomorrow.I said give it a week.

I then logged into the Talk Talk forum, where problems such as this are raised, and there are moderators who help with the answers.I have found them to give excellent advice in the past when I have had (many) problems with Talk Talk. The frist 6 months with Talk Talk were truly AWFUL,but the last year has been problem free.I am happy to stay with them as they are suit my pocket, but I certainly do not want to sign up for another 18 months....

I asked the same question on the forum and a moderator got back and said there is no need to renew my contract, just pay on a month to month basis.which I was most happy to hear.

She said Customer Services are being a bit heavy handed with this, but gave no explanation for Talk Talk's behaviour.

There was another person who did renew, and wondered if he had done the right thing....

So if you get a call from Talk Talk as I did,DO NOT RENEW.
The caller was pushy and sounded irritated that I did not renew my contract.

She ended the call by saying,"I am only doing my job..."

Hope I am in the right place to air this and It hasn't been covered already...

Zolabud.

I reckon the 'annoyance' was simply down to you preventing her from getting her commission.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Just rang up to "disconnect" from talktalk (had no intention of doing so as i'm generally happy with their price/service tradeoff). Managed to get this deal:

continue previous broadband + anytime call package for £21.75 but:
no extended contract - rolling month by month
£5 off monthly bill for 6 months
£1.25 monthly paper bill charge waived.

    new monthly cost: £15.50

Pretty good deal in my opinion. Had to haggle & "definitely want to join tiscali" for a good 20 mins though.
From feudal serf to spender, this wonderful world of purchase power ;)
  • i rang talktalk, as i got the same call as you a few days previously and i was unhappy with the pushy nature and they told me that no changes were made to my account and that im already on a rolling contract. Very confused now. Not sure if i should just ring up and cancel as they are messing me about :/
    OnePoll - £12.40, Yougov - £1.00, VO - £24.25, youdoo miles - 24292, MHF - £0.00
Not much, but its a start :rotfl:

talk talk are the CPW, enough said.........that company started its demise in 2000

I was AOL broadband and thankfully I left before the CPW takeover, £35.00 a month ,7.5MB with unlimited usage & including dial up, I wonder what would have happened had i stayed with my T&C, i know the unlimited got capped at 40GB

I can confirm though my AOL dial up was broadband speed from any landline.......so to be honest I find broadband a con, locked into a contract when broadband speeds were delivered over a dial up connection for browsing - work that 1 out !?

I stayed with AOL so long when at an address I moved out of & rented out with the AOL BB live in the property as the dial-up gave me BB browsing anywhere.....

NOW i know TT/CPW would have pulled that benefit from me !
SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe ;)
