I think the washing machine is about to break

Trying to avoid getting out a repair man for the machine.

I used it today and noticed after the wash the drum was making a grating noise, similar to a coin being stuck somewhere.

Bf checked the filter and only water came out of there. He took off the back panal and fiddled with the motor, he suspects the noise maybe the drum bearing going.

He looked at the front of the machine but is reluctant to take the machine to bits in case he can't get it back together water-tight.

He is fairly good as DIY and inquisitive enough to have a go at fixing it, but does anyone know how he can do this without causing a post-operation flood!

Any advice would be appreciated, as I really don't want to be calling out a man tomorrow instead.

Oh and washing machine is working ok, all stuff came out clean.

Many thanks,

Bay

    Hello bailey

Have you tried running your hand over the drum surface to see if you can feel any obstruction? I know sometimes there are wires from underwired bras that end up jamming up the machine. It could be something like that and you could detect it and pull it free.

Make sure you have the power turned off before attempting anything.

    Kind Regards

If you rotate the drum with your hand it should be easy to tell if the drum bearings are gone - you can usually feel the roughness. If they are gone there is nothing to lose as the machine will shortly become completely unuseable and you may as well have a go at repairing the machine.
Best thing is to find a source for the bearings and decide whether its worth spending money on the bearings and then at least 3 hours doing the repair rather than buying a replacement machine with a guarantee for £200 or so. I would then take the machine apart and be sure that I could put it back together again before buying and fitting the new bearings. There should not be too much of an issue with water tightness as hopefully the door seal and any other gaskets will be in good condition and reuseable.
