Does anyone know any reliable and safe sites for getting Windows XP patches other than that of Microsoft?
Thanks.

Unless you are reasonably advanced, I would stick to getting them from the ms website, thats assuming you are talking about patches to fix windows rather than patches that chnage a feature about Windows.0

I would only download these from the Microsoft site - there is no way of telling if other sites have doctored the patches etc and you are indeed downloading the correct stuff or if they have introduced virus'0 -

Autopatcher will do you very nicely.
As regards those telling you to only stick to Microsoft, the latest WMF bugfix from Microsoft (downloaded from their site) mysteriously chose to turn Windows Firewall on despite the fact I run with ZoneAlarm and had disabled Windows Firewall.
Make of that what you will............personally, I'd trust some of these virus writers more than I'd trust Bill Gates. You'll always miss 100% of the shots you don't take - Wayne Gretzky
Any advice that you receive from me is worth exactly what you paid for it. Not a penny more or a penny less.0 -
PC World apparently, if Intel hasn't nicked all the cd's.. had a look today, and the shelves were empty!
P.S. Apologies to the originator of that tip, forgotten who it was..Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
methinks perhaps the version of Xp we are talking about is not legit ??
hence the need for alternate update sites ?Ex forum ambassador

if its not legit, you can enable automatic updates and it will allow the downloads.Welcome, rogerramjet.

I have exactly the same set-up on a couple of PC's. Neither were affected by the WMF bugfix.perhaps the version of Xp we are talking about is not legit ??
Even if Microsoft consider your version of XP to be 'not legit' they still allow you to download security patches providing you have Automatic Updates set to Automatic. It's not in anybody's interest (apart from the scammers & spammers) to have lots of unpatched versions out there!0
