I am currently in a DMP so am aware I can't show prefernce to a creditor but technically it's not my creditor. I borrowed the money from my Dad on the agreement that I would repay the card including the interest which is only fair. Hopefully this will be gone by baby time as I'm going to put this debt on a 0% card my boyfriend is getting (hopefully!)

Sorry, Jvic, but the way I understand it is If you go bc, it would be seen as preferential treatment, especially if you knew that you were going to be 'insolvent' when you paid your dad off. Although, if the 0% card is in your boyfriend's name, then I guess he would be paying off your dad. You would have to pay this back out of any surplus you had.

What sort of benefits do you get once you have a baby? Is there anything you can start claiming when you're pregnant?

While you're pregnant, free dental care and free prescriptions, and your work should allow you paid time off for midwife appointments, etc - don't think you get anything financially.

I understand, but I can't just not pay my Dad back. It would wreck his credit rating and thats just not fair. Technically though, as I say the credit card would now be in my boyfriends name and I would pay that off.

I'm not looking to go bankrupt wither by the way, I'm just throwing ideas around. I want to pay back my debt as I spent the money in the 1st place. It's my fault. I wish I hadn't accumulated this debt as I'd much rather be able to spend it on 1st baby.

Thanks for that. This will probably sound really stupid but how do I prove I'mn pregnant? Do I have to get something from the Doctor?

Yes as soon as you are pregnant you should make a booking in appointment with the midwife, she then gives you an exemption certificate to send off. My daughter is expecting her first so i know from what she has done. I am far too old to remember:o

All the things we are throwing at you should not be seen as criticism,we are just trying to point out things which may be a grey area SHOULD you decide to go bc.

Also are you aware of the system where if you have any surplus income over £99 per month then you may have an order whereby you pay 36 monthly payments of any surplus back to your creditors. That said the allowances for bc are much more generous than when on a DMP.

Believe me we do understand exactly where you are coming from and you are doing the right thing in finding out as much as possible before you make that descision.
