In Faro most of time, but in Tavira for 24/25/26. Staying in Vila Gale hotel, so wont die of hunger or thirst. Prefer small local bars and restaurants whenever possible.
Been there a few times before, but never over xmas period, wondering what to expect.0 -
There's no boxing day in Portugal, so everything will be open then.
You might have some problems on Christmas day though, but I'm sure you'll find somewhere.
You could try calling the Algarve Tourism office: +351 289 800 400

Just trying to get a feel for the situation there over the two days.0 -

Is that the Vila Gale Albacore? We stayed there for a couple of nights about 3 years ago. It's a strange place, sort of in the middle of nowhere outside Tavira. It's an old tuna fishing village converted to a hotel complex. Rooms were fine and breakfast was ok too. Didn't eat other meals there.
If you are in the town of Tavira, try 'Bica' for a meal. It's on Rua Almirante Candido dos Reis. It is under a small hotel and looks nothing special. But the food is excellent, and cheap too. Their tuna cooked in the style of Tavira is legendary. Real Portuguese cooking.0 -

No, it's the one in Tavira town itself, close to everything. It's a sister to the Albacore one. They run a free bus between the two each day, and then a ferry to a rather pretty island out there.
Thanks for the tip about "Bica"0
