Can anyone tell me how I insert text into the footers on a word document?
I've got a 1.3cm margin at the bottom, I need to insert text such as
Maps 1,5,6,10,15 on the left in the footer, then the page number on the right hand side. I need to be able to insert my own page numbers by hand though, as the documents are not laid out in order.
I just can't work this out!!!

Hi,
Go to View>Header and Footer and click on one of the buttons on thr right of the toolbar that appears before the word "Close". This will switch to the footer.
You might need to use tabs to align the text as you wish.0 -
Assuming it's a recent version, you should be able to press the VIEW drop down menu and click on header & footer then click in the dotted box and type directly into it. If you can't then you may have something turned off in the programme.
Hope that helps.

You should also be able to double click in the footer and then type into it.0

That's magic. I can now enter the text. The only problem is......When I enter the text, it is being entered in a 'grey' shade. How can I change the font properties so the footer text has the same properties as the rest of the page. I want the writing to be the same, but in the footer rather than being inside the margins.
Thanks for this tip though. How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

When you print the page, the footer text will be the same colour as the rest of the text on the page (it's just lighter on screen so you can tell it's footer text).0 -

Is it simply that the font colour is wrong? You change the font properties in the footer in exactly the same way as you do in the main document. Either select the font colour before you type or highlight your typing and change it.
If it is not the colour, again you can change the properties by selecting format/font from the toolbar.0 -

This does not happen on mine, it always looks the same on screen and when printed.
It might help if we all put what version of word we are using. Mine is Word 2003.0 -

Go to Format > Font to change the text colour, by default it should print in black.0 -
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!!!
I don't know how I'm going wrong here. The footers are definately coming out grey. I've checked the font colour, I changed the colour from automatic to black. Seeing as I'm only using the printer in B/W mode ath the moment, all the footers are not printing.
I'm using Word 2000 on this machine. How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

I have just realised what bigbadgoggs meant. When you click into your normal page then the headers and footers will appear grey. They should be the correct font colour when you click into them.
Are you sure your printer is set up correctly and can print to the edge of the page to include the footers. Your margin is pretty small.0
