Royal Mail surcharge - how to get refund?

Hi everyone,

Well the items from the seller who was deregistered from ebay - did turn up - but with a PRICE! I had to pay a £5.24 surcharge as he had not stuck any postage sticker/stamps on the box.

How do I go about getting a refund, as ebay is no longer part of this transaction as the user is not registered there anymore. The seller told me he will refund the surcharge money via paypal soon, but just incase he tries to delay it - what steps can I take?

many thanks

Unless your seller refunds of their own accord I believe other than the small claims court, which isnt really worth considering for the sum involved, there is not any steps you can take.

There is an option in paypal to dispute P+P but paypal do not take any part in ensuring the seller does refund

oh dear so seems like I have to go on the mercy of the seller....personally I think its daylight robbery to send an item in the mail without paying the postage and hoping the buyer picks up the tab at the other end  , as I have already paid for the p&p through the auction itself!!

It's your choice whether or not to accept (and pay for) an unpaid item.

ahhh- thats really annoying- I hope the item was worth alot more then the surcharge! I had to pay one of these once- for a bloody readers digest parcel! (Junk mail) didn't know till I had paid that I was able to look at it through the glass and refuse to take it!

Anyway- back to the point, is the seller still linked to paypal? (know you said they were not with ebay, but if they are with paypal it could be different) it could be worth seeing if you can get anything back that way- it may not be possible but worth a try?

Don't slate the seller too much without proof they deliberately sent the package without postage.

I had a similar problem - buyer wrote to me saying they had to pay a fee because I didn't put postage on it - luckily I had a proof of postage certificate from the PO, so I asked the buyer to pay the charge and I then refunded her.

Claimed back off Royal Mail and got a book of stamps for my trouble.

Seller is deregistered, the buyer wouldn't be able to leave any feedback from what I understand.

You could alwyas say the parcel did not arrive? try getting something back that way via ebay which is linked to PayPal?

Yeh thanks for the advice - I had no choice but to pay the surcharge as its an Xmas present for a family member.

The seller knows it has arrived - as I emailed them a picture of the parcel with surcharge sticker on, so maybe it could be risky going through ebay and doing it.

Going through paypal is the only option it seems - but I will give the seller a week to send the refund as he said he would once his paypal is sorted out (I think when ebay deregistered him - his paypal was put on hold too  )
