Lol, don't bank on it....we're in the middle of nowhere. :)

I think I'll phone my old driving instructor and see if she has any info.

I passed my test using a2zofmotoring.co.uk and i know they do various courses, including intensive courses for alot less than £600!

Just a couple of tips for you though.

Never book a test first thing or last thing on any day (usually busy roads/school traffic), Never book on a monday or Friday (Alot of rumours of a quote system, so at the start they will be very picky, and at the end if they have passed alot they will be very picky).
I found Weds to be bad too, failed 3 times at various times all due to other road users!

Learn from the mistakes of others - you won't live long enough to make them all yourself.

As a rule of thumb it is about 1 lesson for every year old you are. But saying that if you want to pass very quickly in say 6-10 lessons like I did then an Automatic is the quickest, but this does mean you can not drive a Manual (Gear / Stick Shift) without doing a Manual Test and lessons.

I would say stick to the weekly lessons, this gives you chance to experience different weather conditions and times of day, which is not as easy to do unless you book a week that is at night in the snow!

    Good Luck.

So if an 18 year old started learning then they could pass after just 18 lessons? wow..well i guess i'll need 30 or so lessons  and how did you pass in 6-10 lessons?

I'm learning in a manual because i could get either a manual or automatic caralthough i think driving an automatic is a lazy way of driving :o

I was in a hurry to pass my test to gain a mobile job, after quite a few years on motorbikes (not as helpful as it might seem!) I went for two or three lessons a week. You dont forget last weeks lesson and its not as exhausting as an intensive course. It was expensive but overall less than than the intensive option. The key to a first time pass is plenty of practise. Its no good going for a test until clutch control, smooth gearchanges, proper road position become habitual. When this happens your confidence will show and you have all your concentration available to deal with the traffic on your test.

I learnt in an Automatic at 34 and I only needed 6 lessons, and then after passing I took further Motorway lessons - essential and many people don't bother.

As for being lazy, it's one of those debates, I hated manual and I think an Auto allows you to concentrate on the Road, and you have less chance stalling the engine than a Manual. It's also far less of a pain if you are driving in town / traffic. So if I am lazy, I guess that makes 95% of America the Same :naughty:

I'm not too keen on the intensive courses. there's a lot I learnt over my 13 months worth of lessons that can't be taught in a week..... or can't actually be taught.

I'm a big believer in needing the 'experience' of driving (god, I sound old!)
