Driving Lessons

On average how many do you have before your ready to take your test? I'm talking about a non nervous driver. I had my first driving lesson last week and was told i'm very good at keeping the car straight and steady :j
Is a week long intensive course which costs about £600 including your theory and driving test cheaper or dearer then if you took your lessons once a week?

So thats about 5-6 months and about £360.00 quid  So why do they charge around £600 for the intensive courses when it works out cheaper having them each week?0 -

Probably because it is an intensive course and everything gets crammed into it and apparantly the companies that offer intensive courses have high pass rates. For example in the intensive course you get 2o lessons crammed into the course some companies guarentee you will pass first time or your next test is free so then if you take 20 normal lessons then go for your test you may fail then you have to go through it again so you have to lay out more money.
If you have the money to lay out all in one go and dont have the time to do normal lessons then go for it
One thing is do people who pass on intensive 1 week courses rather than some who takes lessons over a couple of months become a better standard of driving?0 -
I may stick with once a week then and like you say, we have time to learn the theory books etc as well

If you take a lesson a week, you'll have more variety in weather conditions which will give you more experience. Also you can try a couple of lessons in the dark to practise night driving. Here I go again on my own....0

I recently had a refresher course after not driving for nearly ten years and my instructor said it takes anywhere ebtween 40-60 (!) lessons to pass as a good driver these days. He did say you could probably pass in about 25 if you just learned to pass the test rather than actually learning how to drive but I dont know what all that was about.:A:A:A:A:A:A0

The DVLA says it takes about 40 hours of driving, but that can include going out with a friend or someone instead of your instructor.Murphy's No More Pies Club #209

Were you parked at the time?
Just kidding! :rotfl:
Are the intensive courses that cost £600 residential ones or daily ones? My lad will be 17 in 5 months and is desperate to do this but I don't know a lot about them or how to find out if there's any in our area.
(I'd cheerfully pay £600 if it meant getting shot of him for a week.

Would not know how to find the intensive course lessons apart from phoning around driving schools and looking in the yellow pages or maybe the classifieds in your local paper as surely there must be a few companies offering this service0 -
