Beware of bogus emails offering to buy!

I placed an add in the Friday Adds freebee in december to sell a car, had a response the next day from someone calling themselves Mr Owen Carr aggreeing on the sale price with arrangements for payment and collection to follow. Alarm bells sounded but i thought i'd play allong just in case. Owen, the good fellow he is posted me his cheque for £3000 to pay for the car and the balance to be paid to the shipping agent via western union to cover all the expenses, even the location of the local office has been supplied. No prizes for guessing that the cheque was returned and after the question was raised why it hadn't been cleared the phone went dead and contact terminated. Well folks i'm new to computer generated fraud even though i wasnt taken in and just played along for the sport but id like advice as to how i can ensure that all steps are taken to track down the naughty boy and make life difficult for him and any partners in crime. ive saved all the information ive been sent, just waiting to hear comments on what i should do next please.

I'm assuming that this individual now has your personal, contact details...?

If so, it would be best to for you to advise your local Police (although don't expect a major investigation to be conducted or even a minor one due to limited force resources, the extensive scope of these crimes and the low priorities alloted to them) and back off from it :)

It is unlikely that you would suffer any physical repurcussions when "confronting" or interfering directly with these scammers, it is not impossible - is it worth the risk to you?

For further details on this and other similar fraud methods, please feel free to have a browse through the 419 Eater site for further information...
