Microsft Office Word 2007 Problem

I'm trying to type up spme documents but when ever i go onto word its coming p with the folowing THIS MODIFICATION IS NOT ALLOWED BECAUSE THE SELECTION IS LOCKED......whats this mean, i havent changed any of the settings that i know of

more importantly how do i unlock the selection!!!

go to the Review Tab of the Ribbon if the Restrict Editing & Formatting Task Pane isn't displayed. Then click the Protect Document icon (right end of the Ribbon) & choose Restrict Editing & Formatting. At the bottom of the pane click the Stop Protection button - if there is no password require you will be allowed to revise the document. If prompted for a password & you don't know what it is you can't make changes anywhere the Find Next Region... And Show All Regions... Buttons highlight for you.

its not letting me click on the protect document icon or any for that matter, nothing is highlighted as it should be

Ah, are you using a trial version of Office 2007 that has expired, in which case you might need to activate it over the net (and pay). If thats the case, you could always look at free alternatives such as openoffice.

Not Sure Whats Happening To Be Honest, Dont Think Its A Trial Version. When I Open Up The Screen Everything Is Highlighted For A Few Seconds But Then Goes Dull And Refuses To Do Anything!!

Does sound like a trial version to be honest. you could try and activate... you would need to use on line Activation. Use Alt+F, I, then select Resources button and Activate. that would at least confirm if that is the problem. If you continue to have problems, you could download and install openoffice from openoffice.org and see if you can edit the file that way.
