Nectar points problem

Firstly - let me apologise because this may turn into a rant, but I will try to stay calm!
I don't know if this is in the right place, but I would like some advice please. I tried to get onto the Nectar website last night in order to place an Amazon order and get the Nectar points. The Nectar website was being updated, so I couldn't get in. I tried for about half an hour between 11.30pm and midnight, and was so tired I eventually just placed the order directly with Amazon (I was afraid the Amazon prices might increase if I waited, as they do change daily, although typically - it turns out they haven't changed!).
However, I have tried to contact Nectar today and they point blank refuse to give me the points. I can see where they are coming from, I placed the order directly with Amazon and not through Nectar - but I did TRY to place it through Nectar. To my mind, it was a fault with their site that prevented me getting the points, so I think they should still give me the points.
Any thoughts on what I should do? Apart from calm down and get a life
that is! I know I'm over-reacting, but this was a big order for me, £90, and I just feel a bit peeved that I am missing out on points because their website was down.

You should have waited untill the Nectar card website working.
Don't think you can get any chance to claim back the points. If you didn't click through Nectar card website to order, they would not get commission from the shop. And they couldn't reward you any point. Sorry.0 -
Yes, I know I should have waited. I thought about waiting but was afraid some of the Amazon prices would have increased today - there were a couple of items in particular that were half price and I wanted to grab them while I could.
The thing was, I got into the Nectar site at 11pm last night and placed my order through there. Then I realised I'd made a mistake so cancelled the entire order straight away and placed it again. But to be on the safe side I decided to log back in to Nectar, before I placed the second order, just to be absolutely sure I got the points. But by this time the Nectar site was being 'upgraded'.
I have no way of knowing if my order would have been logged even if I hadn't started afresh - if their site was down, it might not have recorded my order anyway.0 -

It doesn't really work like that - once you've clicked through, that should be job done - so your order would have been safe.
I don't think you're really entitled to anything - as john said, you chose, in the end, not to go through nectar to get your order at the current price. Thems are just the breaks, methinks.
That said, I've had similar things in the past and have just kept on at Nectar and in the end they've caved just to shut me up and given me the points. If you really think it's worth arguing over, stick at it, you never know.0 -
It probably isn't worth the hassle. You've been lucky. I had a problem with Nectar a few years ago, they hadn't given me points for loads of orders (over a 12 month period) where I HAD gone through their site. I argued the point but I don't think I got much - I think they caved on some orders but not all so I don't hold out much hope.
I guess I just wanted some sympathy! I was having a good day until I logged onto the Nectar online chat and discovered it wasn't a real person but just a bot, and didn't answer my questions, just told me to ring them instead. Then when I did ring I had trouble making them understand my problem - they kept saying it was Amazon that were updating the site, not Nectar... and I was on to them for 20 minutes. It just got me really wound up!!! Aaarrrggghh! I HATE call centres!0 -
If its any consolation, I have never had any points I'm due from Nectar other than with my normal 1 point per pound shopping at Sainsbury's - LoveFilm, BP, Spending x amount on x products in Sainsburys as a special offer/voucher from the website....never had any of them, so I don't fall for the marketing now and just look upon Nectar as something I get along with my shopping and that's it. I guess it's something for nothing so not something to get annoyed about, but it *does* annoy me as it's false advertising and lies and gets me all angry...grrrrr lolDo not feed the trolls please.0

MOVING THREADS FOR BETTER RESPONSES
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.:hello:0 -
The points are worth less than £1, so it would probably take more in phone calls and effort to get it fixed...0

Sorry but its pointless in you trying to get the points as you didn't go via the link on nectar,0

As a note don't use try to use Nectar eStores on a public access computer, such as one in a Library. The security settings will likely block the transfer of information from the Nectar site to the Amazon sites, for example.
Then if you try to take it up with Nectar you'll get a generic response saying "You did not use the Nectar eStores service when placing the order." and if you reply to it they'll keep sending you the same generic response.0 -
TBH I would consider 11pm a normal time for a site to be doing maintenance. If I had gone on at say 3pm and it was down I would probably be annoyed but these online sites have to do maitenance at some point. Really you should have gone on earlier in the day when it would be more likely to be working.0
