If you want plain gold (or platinum) bands (in a selection of shapes and finishes) and don't want to pay high street prices, then try a company who actually makes the rings:
www.bettsmetalsales.com
They are based in Birmingham and are trustworthy. Rings are sent by Special Delivery in less than 10 days and can also be collected from their store in Birmingham.
Register on the website for trade prices (which are half the price you see if you just surf the website without registering). They will sell to anyone - just select 'hobbyist' when you register.
We recently bought matching heavy 18ct white gold flat court rings from them, weighing a total of 21.5g for a total of £485 inc VAT and free delivery.
High street prices for identical rings came to nearly £1000 - when viewing rings in jewellers, ask them to weigh them - you will see how poor value they are - they will typically work out at £40 per gramme.
Rings are priced per gram and the final price will be determined after they've finished the rings - it should only vary by approx £20 per ring - could be lower or higher than website's quoted price, but not by much.
Their 18ct gold rings are approx £18/gramme at the moment, although it does vary week to week with the gold price.
I challenge you to beat their prices. I don't think you will get close to their price per gram.
If you want a diamond planted in the bride's ring, you will need to get that done by a jeweller after you've received the rings.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
when i bought the DW's e ring - went for platinum.
but when it came to the wedding rings, our finanes had changed and we got a pair of WG wedding bands.
Its shouldnt be a problem over time - yes the platinum will wear the WG ring down over time... but we're talking decades here - about the same length of time that your finger will wear the WG ring away.
when you first get the ring, if you go for different metals then it will look different, but over the course of a month or 2 your rings will pick up scratches and dents, and take on a lovely patina (my own wedding band is a dull silver colour - but then i always forget to take it off when working under my car!)
An alternative to consider is a Titanium ring, which seems a good cost alternative to Platinum2009 wins: Signed Saxon CD, Solar Torch, Drumsticks, Priest Feast Tix, Watch, Hammerfest tix :beer:0 -
It was recommended to me by a jeweller to have the same metal for e ring and w ring so one didn't tarnish the other.Kavanne

Having two rings made from dissimilar metals will result in the more reactive metal oxidising more quickly than would happen if both rings were the same.
The more reactive metal will act as a sacrificial anode for the less reactive one.
You will actually speed up the wearing away of the ring made from the more reactive metal as a result.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
Haha I love chemistry.Having two rings made from dissimilar metals will result in the more reactive metal oxidising more quickly than would happen if both rings were the same.
