Ok so I bought my dad a new football shirt for his birthday and my brother had the same idea and bought him the same. At the time I didn't know whether or not my dad would want or like it and asked the shop assistant if I could bring it back for a refund if he didn't like it and added that it wouldn't be to that store as I weren't local and he said it shouldn't be a problem. So I bought it and gave it to my dad and as he'd already got one shirt from my brother I said that I'd take my one back and gave him money for something else on the understanding I'd get the money put back onto my card. Wrong! When I got round to taking it back they said that they don't actually offer refunds only exchanges or credit notes, so they now owe me nearly £50! Call me old fashioned but I believe that with most stores if you can't get a refund on something then you are told at the point of sale which I wasn't, and what made it worse was that the SA in the store I bought it from actually told me I could get a refund!!! The woman in my local store said that she could see why I'd be annoyed and urged me to contact Head Office about the incident as they should never have said that, its one of the basic policies and God knows how many other people have fallen into this trap. What I wanted was help and advice on what to write in this letter of complaint, has anyone been in this situation with the company and how did they deal with it. Its not that I mind the credit note, I will use it over time, but its the fact that I feel they have taken advantage of me by misleading me into a 'refund promise', ok I should of checked but thats not the point, why should my money be tied up in their company, if I hadn't of asked then yeah they would have a point but the fact is I did ask and I feel like I have been lied to, what makes it worse is that the store is the opposite side of the country to me so its not as though I can just make the trip there again! Any help or advice on this situation would be greatly appreciated

All information given by myself is offered informally and without prejudice - if in doubt seek help from a qualified and insured professional0 -
They are well known for their no refund policy and unfortunately are well within their rights to enforce it. There are usually lots of signs around the till area stating the policy.
I think all you can do is contact customer services or head office and explain your situation and the fact that you were misled. Mention the sales assistants name if you have it. Hopefully they will agree to a refund as a gesture of goodwill.0 -

It's actually the other way round. You should assume when you buy something that you can't get a refund, and if they do offer one, then it's a very kind gesture!
She shouldn't have told you that you can get a refund though, when you can't (although I'm sure it has signs up in the shop saying credit note only...), so it might be worth writing to headquarters to query this.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
Are you sure they didnt just say you could return it?0

Too tight to let you have any of his money :rotfl:

Seriously, I've boycotted these shops now. Last time I went in one, at the height of Ashley's disgrace, I wore my Newcastle shirt on prominent display. No wonder the staff looked the other way when i went near them!!! :rotfl: they are well known for not letting you have a refund, but they shouldnt be giving false information either... keep on at them!*The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200 -
My advice would be to buy a knock off one from Asia for £11.00.It's taken me years of experience to get this cynical0
