  • I actually had a homebuyers report carried out
  • Can anyone on here tell me whether uPVC windows actually provide structural support? therefore not needing a lintel in place?

No I don't think so you still need something to support the wall above...

I've contacted insurance company but apparently chimneys are not covered on insurance as owners are expected to maintain them themselves & it would come under normal wear & tear :(

I do have a bit a crack above the front window that looks dodgy but not sure so definately gonna get someone out. I'm beginning to think its worse than originally thought as my bedroom ceilings have also cracked & the rooms have all been plastered at different stages so its kinda strange that they've all cracked at the same time

Your insurance company mean that chimney pots, etc aren'y covered. If your problem is a serious one it will be a structural issue that may or may not have been initiated by fitting the aerial. I'd get back onto them.

Did you have any work done other than simple replastering?

It's just worrying that if it wasn't for the builder that initially came out I still wouldn't have a clue & would probably only find out at the point where my windows pop

I think you're about to be ripped off. How does the builder know that the wall ties need doing? He needs to examine inside the cavity to make a proper assessment. Has he done anything like that?

I don't believe that windows don't have lintels. UVPC, wood or metal windows offer no structural support. So the change of windows is irrelevant. The window and door openings must be supported with something that was installed from the beginning.

Rather then solve these new problems what did they say about the chimney?
