NRP Moving abroad

Hi,

I am about to move abroad and wondered what happens to the payments I make to the CSA? Its a clean break, so I won't have any assets in the UK. If I stop paying the standing order they can't obviously enforce the payment, but will they count it as arrears? Or will I be assessed as £0 as I am abroad. Do i tell them, or just cancel the DD?

I am in financial difficulties because of this and would like to come to an agreement with my ex on a more suitable payment.

One other question, they say the CSA will only get involved with cases where parents cant agree. What if this payment is less than what the CSA would have assessed, but the parents agree on the figure? Can we arrange that now for CS1 cases today?

Many Thanks
D

Im sorry but the CSA is like the Grim Reaper, and nearly all the country's in the world are connected with CSA and you will still be liable to pay abroad.

will you be finishing work before you go ?

Remember to phone the CSA and advise them you are no longer working or you will build up arrears. ;). advise in both phone and letter, have it recorded delivery keep all copys.
  • yes, i will be finishing work and get a p45, so i guess i can hand that in to show i'm not working.

I guess once i stop paying they'll start looking for my NI payments and realise I don't pay any anymore!

Quebec in Canada seems a good place to be ;)
  • Just to put this straight. The CSA can not touch you out of the UK. That list given is a list of REMO countries.

It basically means they have an agreement in place to grant maintenance through the courts.

From what I have read if you are found in your new country then the court will work out an appropriate amount you should pay - this amount also takes into account the PWCs pay. (Wow wouldn't that be good in the UK!)

So if you move out of the UK and have no bank accounts, arrears or assets that the CSA know of - then write to them proving it and ask for the case to be closed. Request confirmation in writing and that if they decline to close the case ask for the reasons why.

Your ex should be able to close the CSA case saying that you have a private arrangement. This should stop the CSA liability unless you have arrears in which case these will remain and will not go away (as you will see from people on here that are being chased for arrears from years ago)
  • if you call them they can close the case for you from the date you leave the uk - any arrears owing would remain in place. if you and the pwc can make an arrangement any arrears owing to her can be adjusted but if the pwc is on benefits (or has been in the past) some of the arrears may be payable to the secretary of state and would still need to be paid.
Comp Wins 2011 : Cant wait to start listing everything:j:j:j
  • Yes I wouldn't call though. Do it in writing sent signed for delievry and keep the receipt. Actually if it was me I'd send 3 copies to different departments, just to make sure they couldn't denie it.

Using the phone for any sort of communication with CSA employees is suicide.
