Excited about new dell!!

Options
I am really excited and look forward to received my Dell computer. I just hope everything goes well with the set up and creating a new dial up for btyahoo. I am also hoping to get broadband if everything goes well. What's keeping me is I am worried in case I cannot set the broadband up? I am sure some of you think I am a silly old woman. When you do not know much about computer every silly thing seem to be a worry. I also need to transfer the music from the old computer using the MP3 player. It's a windows 98, and some of the flash pen do not support it. I was thinking of getting one to do the transfer. At present the computer shuts down after 1 hr of use. Please do I need the MP3 player software on the new computer if I want to burn a CD. Will keep you posted. Thanks

Windows Xp should just detect the MP3 player as soon as you plug it in

and don't worry , 99.9% of the time boradband is EASY to set up, install the software, plug in the modem to the PC and the phone socket and your there !!

ps ....if you decide to swap to broadband from someone else instead of BTYahoo then you can keep your email address live by dialling in to your account every 60 days :)

Just keep the phone line disconnected (for the dial-up modem) at all other times. :)

Broadband is easy to set up but I would urge you to use a different service provider than BTYahoo. They were forced to rebrand a couple of years ago (they used to be known as BTOpenworld - do a google on "BTOpenwoe" if you want an idea of their service level).

WinXP will in most cases automatically detect your flash drive and see it as a removable disk..........older OSes usually need driver disks to see flash drives and even then may not work.

Any advice that you receive from me is worth exactly what you paid for it. Not a penny more or a penny less.

There are so many out there that it is so confusing to know which one to get. I mention btyahoo as this is my current provider for surftime and I have not had any problems with them. Do you have any recommendation, I am thinking of may be tesco net or virgin? Thanks again.

Another silly question, I have got two phone sockets, one in the lounge and one in the bedroom. The one in the bedroom I use a telephone socket doubler for the phone and the modem. I understand I will need some filters (not sre whether I have got it right), please how many do I need two or three? Thanks for all your help.

    Yes that's what you posted!
You are so helpful and knowledgeable that I was surprised that not only did marylee not thank you but she was silly not to take your advice.

Sorry, I do appreciate advice and help from you members of the forum, sometimes I am lost with what I have already posted.
